The Sims 4 Base Game has been on the market since September 2014 – that’s over 8 years now! When you consider that the average lifespan for a Sims generation is 5-6 years, The Sims 4 is truly hanging in there by holding it’s record of being over 8 years old!

As EA continues to invest in the game with new content, it has also decided to do something to attract an even larger audience to the title across PC, Mac and Consoles by making the base game completely free to download.

Yes, you heard that right. The Sims 4 is going FREE TO PLAY from October 18th 2022.

This means that you will be able to download the game and get the full The Sims 4 experience free of charge. If you already own the game, which I am sure many of you do, then you will be able to redeem a free copy of The Sims 4 Desert Luxe Kit – which released today – as a gift.

This is an interesting move for EA to make at this stage of The Sims 4’s lifecycle, though not completely surprising when you consider the base game is almost permanently on sale for about £5.00, and the success of other titles by selling DLC after providing a core experience for free.

It could be a way of attracting new people to the base game so they can purchase the endless amount of packs released over the years, and for those who can’t afford The Sims 4 to be able to experience it and enjoy everything the game has to offer.

It could also be a way to give The Sims 4 one last big opportunity before moving to a new generation of The Sims in the future (which is very long overdue).

Be sure to save the 18th October date in your diaries, as we’re also promised some other big announcements for The Sims 4 in a livestream.
