It seems that there is another last-minute beta for SimCity prior to it’s collective launch next week, and this one is a little different. I opened up my inbox this morning and (poof!) there’s another invite! It also mentions that this one is a full-unlock, so it sounds like it may be a view of the game’s Sandbox Mode, where the player doesn’t have to build specific things to unlock specific things.

From what I am hearing, it’s a 4 hour windows to play the game. Also, this is a stress test for the servers. Hopefully a lot of us that got in the first two get invites to this.
Load testing for the servers. Fascinating approach to the test – something most businesses can’t or won’t attempt on this scale. I wish I was there at EA to watch the results, but instead I’ll be playing. Odd, I’d rather be working this time. I wish they could release their results, if nothing else as an industry paper.
Yes, it’s a 4 hour test. For me, it starts at around 9 pm……. so I’m probably only going to be able to check it out for a little while. I like the ‘stress test’ angle, because it means that launch day may not be as frenzied as I thought it might be 🙂 I was in the first 2 betas, so hopefully that’s a good sign for other people!
Not going to be getting SimCity, both times I played, the game either crashed or had a never-ending loading screen.
I was honestly surprised at the Betas; I’d never participated in one before for anything but assumed it would be pretty buggy or whatnot. I feel like I may have been one of the only people that has talked about it who didn’t have any problems whatsoever. One thing I feel that people do have to keep in mind is with a Beta you aren’t getting the full experience… and bugs are to be expected. You’re just testing out the hardware for them to make sure that they can work a good chunk of the kinks out before it goes live for real.
If only EA would allow The Sims Studio to do so.. :p
