I think it’s important to always point out two things when announcing sales for The Sims 3 on Steam: (a) You need to own the base game on Steam, this is not compatible with retail/Origin versions (b) EA no longer releases new Sim 3 titles on Steam, so you can only ever own up to Showtime.
I’ve got friends who just love Steam. Yeah, it’s got good deals but what happens once the servers close down or if you move to an area with little to no internet service?
You can use Sims games bought on Steam on Origin. All you need to do is register the code to your Sims 3 account and it will show up in Origin. At least, this it is what it has done for me. I wouldn’t take my word on it, no idea if this still works like this, but mine have, so migration from Steam to Origin has been easy. You can still get great prices from Steam and get the latest on Origin.
It is also important to note, do not buy The Sims 3 yet, check Steam daily to see if there is a special franchise sale, as they may be marked down more than just 50% at one point!
I got all my sims games from Steam last year during the summer sale and registered them all on my origin account when my friend got me pets on DVD. as long as you write down or register your CD KEY with origin you can buy hard copies, or buy from origin if Steam ever shuts down. If you buy from steam though, you cant install from steam. You must register your account with origin and then install from them, and then install the hard copy or origin version.
Am I right in saying as of yet, there has been no further reductions in The Sims 3 franchise sale on Steam?
I believe there is only one more day of “today’s deals” so wonder what the chances are of it coming up on there?
What the…I thought EA took their games off of Steam because they have Origin now. lol

That is good to know! Would really suck to buy all the games on Steam to find out that you can’t add to it anymore with retail/Origin versions.

Good to know, Flabaliki. Sounds like I was misinformed, although it seems to be a commonly held belief.
