Maxis to announce their next project at GDC 2012

On Tuesday, March 6, EA will be livestreaming from the Games Developer Conference with huge announcements that they’ve dubbed ‘Game Changers Event‘.  During their presentation, they stated that Maxis will be unveiling their latest project:

After EA set its Game Changers countdown website live, EA PR Erik Reynolds tweeted: “MORE INFO! EA Maxis GDC announcement, huge event w/ special guests.”
Then, on the Game Changer Facebook page: “How can we change the world together? Find out when EA hosts the Game Changers event at GDC. What would you do if you had the power to change the world?”

Man, as much as I want to get hyped up for a possible announcement of SimCity 5, I’m not going to hold my breath for it in case it’s something completely different.  But it seems that everyone else is keeping their fingers crossed that is, so I’ll at least do that. A new SimCity game would surely get me out of this Sims funk and have me hooked again….I need something new to look forward to.

A Simcity 5 that was as elegant as SimCity 4 and integrated itself with The Sims 3 sims (allowing import of TS3 sims) would be… …amazing.

I hope it’s not something Spore related.

With EA at the helm, you can be certain that whatever the game is, it’ll be riddled with micro-transactions, day-one DLC, pre-order DLC, social/Facebook/Twitter crap and heavy-handed DRM in the form of Origin spyware.
This isn’t the Maxis of old, so it won’t be anything innovative, but instead it’ll be the kind of “design-by-committee” stuff that the bean-counters at EA are increasingly becoming notorious for.

I’d be happy if they made anything other than a social game (GTFO Facebook!) or an Shoot ‘Em Up.
I’m hoping for a much, much better Spore Sequel, Simcity 5 or some innovative new simulation game (maybe a remake of their old sim games? That would be amazing!)

If one of the “Special Guests” turns out to be Will Wright, I bet it’ll be Hive Mind. Fingers crossed for SimCity 5 though.

It will almost certainly be some kind of Social Networking game, maybe even cross platform integrated. Free to play (or as we used to call it – shareware). Everything you need for it will be in the form of expensive DLC from some sort of online store, restrictive DRM and be riddled with bugs from the get-go.

“How can we change the world together? Find out when EA hosts the Game Changers event at GDC. What would you do if you had the power to change the world?”

It sounds like it will be some sort of “God” game, which has been done to death… It could be a new take on SimCity, but I suspect it will have so much DLC, DRM, bugs and enforced social networking it will be crap!

Oh and they are using the Maxis brand suddenly because everyone is wise-ing up to EA and they know that people liked Maxis…
Well Maxis is just a brand name, it’s still just EA making and selling it…

oh crap, i really also hope for simcity 5! but i hope it wouldnt be too slow performance-wise. fingers crossed. dont mess this up.

Knowing EA, Frostbite 2 will probably be used, resulting in no bat tools, since Ea don’t really want you to make mods, they just wanna pump out DLC. Call me old fashioned, but I though exp packs were just fine…
