IGN – The Sims 3 Barnacle Bay arriving Sept. 23 for 1650 Simpoints

BeyondSims BeyondSims Author

EA will be making us all walk off the plank when they release their new town ‘Barnacle Bay’ on September 23.  Featuring all new objects, clothing, sims, rabbitholes and houses this mini-expansion is available exclusively at The Sims 3 Store (and the irony, Pirate Bay) for 1650 Simpoints.  IGN provides a short Q&A with The Sims 3 Team of the town’s features:

IGN: What are some of the new NPC Sims that are in Barnacle Bay?
EA: Barnacle Bay is full of some colorful NPCs. My favorite is Roni Pepper (ha!), a slobby, scruffy pizza delivery guy with no sense of fashion. And Brian Adoyo, a scientist that uses food as examples when explaining scientific theories. There are over 25 new NPCs to create your own story with.

IGN: What sort of new houses will be available? Is it possible to live in a pirate ship?
EA: Sims can eat in a pirate ship! Hogan’s Deep Sea Diner is a nautical diner where Sims can grab a bite to eat with friends. Players can also build custom pirate-themed houses with the new objects that are included in Barnacle Bay, such as porthole doors and windows, wharf and stone fences, and more!

1650 simpoints?! You’re kidding me? By the way, that was against 1650 SimPoints. That’s £8… the price of a stuff pack. Oh, wait. This is kind of a stuff pack. Meh.

  2. Kyle4Sims3 Reply

its only $16.50 its not that bad, for a whole new town with new items and houses and sims…thats less than some of these sets.

  3. GizmonicInstitute Reply

$16.50 isn’t bad???? Are you just made of money and throw it away all the time? It’s a town with a few pirate themed hats and outfits. That’s not even close to a stuff pack, yet the price is almost the same. If anyone gets this thing at all, they should get it elsewhere.

1650 simpoints?! Thats more than a stuff pack costs over here. Wth EA?

This should be 500 points MAX.

Considering Riverview was free and looked better than this, I would say it’s kind of a rip off.

From the one picture, the town doesn’t even look cool…and is lacking detail. It just looks like someone quick made it.

I’ll be waiting to decide about this one once I see the objects it comes with. The new rabbit hole does look very cool though.

1650 is way too expensive. The most I’d want to put towards it would be $10. And I could almost do that if they’d allow us to buy any amount we wanted. I have 500 points right now, so if I bought $10 worth, I’d still be 150 points short, which means I’d have to spend $20 to have enough. I wish they’d at least let us buy points in $5 increments.

  7. wfroberts Reply

Sounds good to me , the price is good…Shortyboo $5.00 increments would be nice…

I too feel that 1650 is very reasonable. After all we pay $20 for a stuff pack and this will have a Town, Sims, NPC’s, Objects, etc. Sounds like a quite a bit to me for 1650 and would and will gladly pay 1650 for this World.

The town doesnt seem to have much of a piratey look to it, except for the ship. . Im gonna leave this until I have more space on my computer, and when I get bored of the Late-Night expansions. .. . . oh and when I actually have money to buy two Simpoint cards. . .

  10. ConnorTurnbull Reply

Considering what you get, it’s about the price of a stuff pack so all is good.

WOW!! That…looks……like crap!! I know I said I’ll buy it no matter what, but now that I see more pics of the town, it’s extremely underdeveloped and looks horrible! EA must think we’re stupid, and rich!! That’s a very crappy package for such a high price! Tisk tisk tisk, EA! You let me down, once again!

  12. Nick Reply

    @Thomas – Agreed!

I read the article and it said that the new town is supposed to be an island.

Where the heck are the jungles and palm trees?! It looks like there is only one type of tree used and it doesn’t even look like an island.

I feel disappointed for the fact that they could have made it look awesome with like a volcano off to one side and maybe a “Caribbean” inspired downtown look to fit in with the pirates theme and then have it surrounded by jungles.

    Just my opinion anyways haha

I’ll wait for my final judgement when I see closer pictures.

ROFL look at that beach… it just looks like someone just poured a crapload of sand and let it ooze out onto the grass. And then there’s also the whole thing with the rabbit holes looking EXACTLY THE SAME as regular neighborhoods.

If you want a Pirate-themed world, try Rflong’s Broken Heart Island, I don’t have a link for it but she has a topic for it on the official Ts3 Create-a-World forum.

Weirdly though, this actually cost less than some of the sets on the store. (Hewnsman to be specific… that one is a b!tch)

WOW !! GREAT JOB EA =D

I love the new world I wish to get more pics … & $16.50 not bad for world ..
    Thank you so much =)

@Nick I couldn’t say what you just said better myself!

The way you described how it should be was perfect! It should be as detailed as the islands in The Sims 2 Castaway (Wii version for myself)!! From the horrible photo shots they released, this world seems more like a 5 year olds sandbox rather than a new neighborhood created by educated video game designers! And frankly, I’m extremely disappointed!

  17. tracy Reply

yeah, i can’t afford to buy more points right now to pay for it, and if I did, I’d be getting that wedding set first………..because i’m such a girl ;P lol

but other than that, it seems interesting enough that i’d still be considering getting it, no lie, just because it looks interesting and i am definitely not one of those people that messes with CC and mods because I’ve had bad experiences with them.

The IGN article now reads,” Barnacle Bay will be available exclusively at The Sims 3 Store for a yet to be determined price point on September 23, 2010. ”

They’ve created a problem for themselves, I imagine. The point of their grossly overpriced “micro” transactions is that people might not noticed they’re being robbed because the items received are small and the price is hidden by the points system.

Now, in offering this world, they have to consider that selling large items for even more ridiculously inflated prices might actually give the game away.

As much as I hate to do this, because I know .. or I think I think the admins won’t like this (just remove the comment in th at case)

but I’ve never purchased a single thing.. but still i managed to have every single store object in my game.. (ahem) :D.

    1. Judhudson Reply

I’m not condoning the act of obtaining them illegally, but I also can’t stop you for doing so. As long as you don’t post said links.

  21. kiwi_tea Reply

We’ll just assume you mean lots of kind people have gifted them to you.

More boring rabbit holes, let me contain my excitement. 😐
Just because it’s cheaper than some of the sets doesn’t mean it’s cheap. By my sums it’s nearly £11 for the set. I bought three games on Steam last week for only £3 more.

  23. jeanineadams2 Reply

I love this new town! I think it’s going to be great and a heck of a great deal. Usually we pay 20.00 to have only a few items. This is going to give us a whole new town to live in. Way to go EA

  24. E- Reply

Mini-expansion? Don’t look like it to me, more like a diarrhea stain. Seriously? Nobody would use pirate clothes in a million years unless they were going to do so in a story.

  25. uknortherner Reply

Don’t forget of course that like with all of EA’s store clothes, they’ll be enabled for every category and will be set as defaults, meaning that like those farmer’s overalls from Riverview, every bloody sim generated by the game will be wearing them, regardless of town you play.

  26. Chris Reply

@uknortherner – Thank you. That made me LOL!

  27. ryan Reply

Wooah.. thats way too much simpoints for a town…and nice ending. Lol

  29. paige Reply

this is a fucking joke! i paid a good £32 for the hole game, not half of it! they make us pay that much buh keep adding stuff and expect us to pay more! they should give it to you free if youve already got the game.

  30. paige Reply

im going on create a world right now and making a proper pirate island
