Update – This was actually a prank pulled by the magazine – it is not true
A number of Brazil players picked up on the fact that Pets may be the focus of the 3rd Sims 3 expansion but at that time, I did not report the news due to the lack of a credible source (one of those my friend heard from their relative working with so-and-so that…). However, the first piece of real print came in from a UK based magazine known as PC Gamer (August 2010 issue) that a Pets expansion is indeed in the works for a February 2011 release.
If any of our readers happen to have this magazine, could you please scan the page for a 100% confirmation?

That would make it the fourth EP since the release date is February of next year. I guess the third EP is medieval-themed?
I really hope so! I hope it’s more than just pets though,it should include weather and seasons.
I honestly think people should stop begging for TS2 EP’s to come into TS3. If they want all the same expansions and stuff packs, then they should just go back to the Sims 2. Although I would enjoy a Pets themed expansion too, chances are that it will be nothing like the TS2 version. WA and Ambitions turned out completely different than Bon Voyage and Free Time/OFB, so I think we’ll end up being surprised at whatever EAxis decide to throw at us.
I believe if the next expansion pack is pets, it will be sometime in November when it would be released, EA follows a pattern of every 6 months to release an expansion, and every 3 months after they release an expansion they release a SP. So whatever they are saying would be released in February would probably be a stuff pack, probably not centered around pets though. Unless they add pets to the game.
@Lydia, WA and Ambitions weren’t based off of Sims 2 EP’s, they are totally different. Bon Voyage was vacations, and yes you can travel to different locations in WA, it’s more along the lines of Adventures, and exploring tombs. Freetime, is again nothing like Ambitions, Freetime was just for hobbies, like crafting clay, sewing, sports, and a violin. Ambitions is more along the lines of follow your sim to work now that we’ve opened it up. They really can’t change a pets EP to be that much different because it would center around one thing, pets. Will they probably add more variety? Maybe, but it will be basically cats, and dogs. Will they add other animals? Probably. So it’s not like there wanting the exact same thing from TS2, because Pets was a pretty standard expansion.
I really want Pets, the game doesn’t seem complete without those critters! Having a Petss EP will be nice because WA and Ambitions weren’t that useful unless you travel/join a profession/learn one of the new skills. None of that stuff really added to the basic gameplay much, if you weren’t doing one of those things the game was relatively unchanged.
Things like Seasons and Pets are simple EPs that really don’t need to be changed, only expanded on (Please add more Pets than Cats and Dogs!)
The time frame is off though, the next EP should be in November and the next SP in Jan/Feb

I agree that February doesn’t line up with the usual release schedule. The next EP should be out at the end of November or the beginning of December. While I do want a pets expansion, I’d much rather have weather first. And EA’s too greedy to give us pets and weather in one expansion.
TS Unleashed and TS2 Pets were my least loved expansions…
I would appreciate a season remake or Apartments.
I believe Pets expansion will be in development of making, but am not sure which number of expansion it will be in. It was popular in Sims 1 and 2. Almost ALL fans want them for Sims 3, including me:) I believe there will be a variety of different kinds of animals.
This would make me so happy! They should not only add pets but maybe incorporate more animals. Since there are woods and such nature locations, new critters such as deer and rabbits and ever bears would liven up the Sims world so much! Weather should have it’s own EP because, 1) It doesn’t really have to do with pets, and 2) It brings along so much of it’s own activites! If they release a Pets EP or animals EP, and then a Seasons EP, my EP wishes would be complete! Also, it’s not about copying TS2, it’s keeping the tradition of certain EPs that have been around since the first Sims! Sorry for long comment! 😀
I agree with Thomas, also there’s only so many unique aspects of life that they can do well, so far I think they’ve covered a great deal so they have to remake and improve some old ones otherwise the “big picture” things in life will all be done with and we’ll be stuck with a ton of expansions like WA and Ambitions (as in more actiony and RPG related which is FINE but I don’t want the entire series to be focused on just adding a new type of opportunity)
i think it would be awesome if you have WA installed or AMBITIONS you can have different kind of dogs. For example maybe in Egypt there would be pharaoh dogs, or servo dogs back at home, or poodles in France. Just coming up w/ things.
Thanks @Robodl95! I agree with you as well! I’d like EA to still stick with what The Sims is all about! You being a “god” figure and being able to control life beyond believe! I understand they want to branch out to a wider audience but that doesn’t mean they should leave the true fans in the dust! But I have faith in EA! I know they’ll continually bring back old topics because hear and there, I can still see the old humor and tradition of The Sims in TS3! 😀

I’m sure there will be a pets related expansion sooner or later! A lot of simmers seem to enjoy that aspect, and if done well if would make a great expansion! Someone once mentioned about having traits for pets, just like sims, which would be a good idea, IMHO!

As much as I would like a Pets remake, I still prefer a nightlife aspect. And what better way than to throw in weather with nightlife (will the inevitable rain ruin your hot date or night on the town?). Apartments also will go hand in hand with nightlife. Especially if it’s a city/urban theme (which is what I truly want). But if it is Pets, I won’t be disappointed because I do like playing with pets. I just hope that we get more animals this time. Jeez, even Unleashed included an iguana and little birdies, which Pets did not. 🙂
February? Well that just throws everything off. I’ve always been annoyed at EA for having a bizarre release window for TS3. I mean, the base game came out in June and then WA in November (just 5 months later), with Ambitions out in June (7 months after WA). I preferred TS2’s approach with it mostly always being 6 months between EPs, generally released in March and September, which is nice since it was almost exactly half a year between releases. TS3’s seems to be all over the place and if the next EP comes out in February, then that will really mess up release schedules lol
I think the time fluctuates now due to the complex nature of the game…I’m more than happy to wait longer if they spend more time on testing and bug-fixing. But it still seems like they aren’t taking that opportunity.
I want there to be pet shows and lots of cool objects for pets like in Sims Pet Stories. And if you can win stuff at pet shows like pet food, pet toys, pet furniture, and simoleons. It’d also be cool in the Create A Pet Mode where you get a feature similar to adding tattoos where you can add spots and stripes to certain spots on your pet if you want. There should also be more breeds and pets to be more like the breed. The Maine Coon in Sims 2 did not look like a Maine Coon.
Josh, most likely there will be contests for pets of some sort. The fact that we have opportunities in the game makes us look forward to the pet possibilities. I’m sure one of the opportunities will be a contest, much like the eating contest we already have for Sims. If done right, this remake could be a very good EP. But I agree in that there should be weather included for those who are not too fond of the Pets remake. That way it will still sell very well as an EP and it’ll still be different because it wouldn’t just be of pets.

I agree that there should be options for Sims and their pets to do at shows, etc. A pet store and animal shelter, and for Sims as a veterinarian to take care of animals, etc, would be great! As for strays, Sims could take them at the shelter to adopt them or sell them themselves. Oh, traits for animals to have, it must be fun and exciting:)
I agree! Have shows and contests of some sort would be so fun! I just hope they add not just pets, but also a few natural animals such as deer and rabbits and ever bears that would liven up the Sims world so much! EA will probably have Seasons as it’s own EP anyway lol But if those two EP’s come out, I’m complete! 😀

Yeh i really think TS3 exp will involve not just dogs and cats but also farm animals aswell. where else will you get milk and eggs from at the shop? imo that would be cool.. i just say so bcuz of the effort to involve farming parts to the game
I think if they bring out a pets, it should not just be dogs and cats, that we should also have farm animals to. Maby insted of pets the could make EP on Farmers Life where you can live on a farm and do the work that you would normally, milk the cow, feed the chickens, ride your horse, sheer the goat and so much more. But to still have those everyday pets in the game.
I like the idea for pets. They always add a new town with the expansion though, so maybe they ought to add horse trails, farms, and wildlife resorts for horses (I love them), farm animals, and some more tropical species. Also finding them in the wild should be made possible. I wonder if there is a way to make the countries in WA suseptable to EP’s. Maybe they ould combine Sims2 Seasons and Pets since seasons is awesome but unfortunately Sims 3 already has most of the features. After Late Night they could also make a less modern based EP like a past themed sims expansion. Contests will be cool, like in Nintendogs (I know I’m a girl), but with a horse riding contest, fetch competition, and a beauty pangaent. The makers can also offer new skills to go with the contests. The ability to own two lots at a time would also be nice since you will need a place to put your horse, lion, or other large animal. They should also make some fantasy animals, such as a dragon or a unicorn. Maybe you could make horse academy/boarding facility. I really hope this will be the next EP. Just a few thoughts.
Yes, if they make an EP for pets they should have more creatures that you see around. Like wolves and deer, bears, cougars, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, raccoons that that sneak in your bins, and so much more. But in stead of farm life, it could be based on animals or something like that.
I Agree with you Amy, it would be so cool to have wild animals in the game.
The just cats and dogs thing was boring in TS2, but werent werewolfs in that EP?? if so, i hope they will include them in the sims 3 version
i realy hope it’s gonna come more types of pets like horses cows sheeps and many mooore if horses are comming i realy hopewe can ride them! 😀

In Regards to Amy’s Comment. I was thinking the same exact thing. Thats what sucked about the sims 2 pets, there were basically just cats and dogs. They should add horses, bunnies, and more. They should also add wildlife, where if your sim goes out in the woods, you’d see deer roaming, or there is a risk of a bear attack! that’d be so cool. If there was loose wolves, and it gave your sims the option to catch it, lol.
Please have some seasons and pets in sims 3. It becomes boring when there are no naughty pets around. I will always vote for cats and dogs. Because sims 3 has a very good graphic art and details, it will be a lot of fun! And why not try to place wild pets like octopus in an aquarium or snakes that can only be held by owners and will sometime be wild that will cause you death! Haha! And playing the game in diff kinds of seasons will be so much fun! There will be sims that will hate that season or love that season.
