If you recall, the latest Sims 3 Patch incorporated a feature which when enabled by EA, will feature ads in our Sims game. If they are smart, they’ll never use that feature as for the most part it will enrage many in the community. After the information was released for The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff, people begin to speculate what ads EA will decide to use in the new stuff pack.
With the new addition, EA plans to add ‘Sponsored racing’ outfits to the game…but before you get out your pitchfork and torches to storm the fortress, a note from one of the SimGurus was picked up by Sims 3 Nieuws:
Hello everyone!
There are a number of folks expressing concern about the new ‘sponsor-laden racing jumpsuits’ in The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff pack and I want to clear up any confusion about these clothing items. The sponsors displayed on the jumpsuits are fictitious companies and all the text is written in Simlish. Real ads will not appear on this clothing. The kids’ uniforms even have a cute frog logo on them!
I’m really excited about the cars, clothing & other cool objects that are in this stuff pack and can’t wait until we can share more with you!

So that answers that. Let’s just hope they’ll keep the same mentality for everything else in the game (although I do have to point out I’m one of the rare players who aren’t bothered by these ads appearing).
wait….can i ask why in-game ads are bad?….
Dunno, I am wondering the same.
I wouldn’t mind in-game ads if they were like the Dr. Pepper promotion or Renault or whatnot. But if they were like pop-ups or billboards in the game that would require internet access, that would be very very bad IMO.
They would slow down your games performance, and increase lag by a ton. Because EA can’t control your internet connection, or how well the game would access the internet once being installed. If they load our towns with all these new billboards and signs it would end up taking forever for them to download and then install before we could play the game, seeing as they don’t have access to our game when it’s not being played. I think their free “promotions” will get them enough money, In-Game ads would make the game really hard to play, and would eliminate the whole simlish language all together.
I would actually like in game ads if they were a billboard in the neighbourhood or at the theatre like they were when we saw them screenshots before TS3 was released. If I see an ad in my game, it almost makes the game seem real(er) and I like that.
…but I sincerly hope they don’t put stuff like popups or wait-30-seconds-to-watch-my-ad-before-you-play-your-game ads.
think about the possibility that we will be paid in simpoints for seeing those ads plus extra free items and maybe cheaper expansion/stuff packs because of the ads.
Sometimes advertising is good for everybody.
Also, H&M and Ikea stuff pack from TS2 were two very good stuff packs 🙂
*my opinion ofc.
@midnight445,
Those stuff packs weren’t “in-game advertisements” they were stuff packs based on actual businesses, and real life content. The “in-game” portion there talking about here isn’t as simple as releasing an optional purchase to have company products featured in your game. It would be like a sign saying check out the new episode of “Burn Notice” tonight on USA. & now and then getting a pop-up asking if you’d like to buy tickets to see the new movie that was just released. That would be a terrible idea, it would be like using a web browser while playing the sims. It would be a terrible idea.
ok – the stuff that drake mentioned, i get. i would hate pop-ups interrupting my simming. but is that the kind of stuff that they said they would do when discussing in-game advertisement? i just never heard of that coming out from EA or any other source, that’s why i’m asking. i always thought what they meant was the products included – like clothing, items, cars, etc.
stuff that has labeling of a particular company, i really wouldn’t care, if anything, it would make the world seem more real while i play. pop ups = bad. would it be affected if i turned OFF my internet though? i mean, sucky way around it but would that work?
Yeah, I’m not too particularly bothered about ads in the game either as long as it’s tasteful and appropriate. Car adverts are fine, maybe even actually include a downloadable car for our Sims like they did with TS2 and the Toyota and Renault in TS3, drinks are fine (not alcoholic though), even TV shows would be fine. Stuff that could be related to our Sims world if you get me. I don’t really want adverts for some pharmacy company I’ve never heard of selling drugs that help with you know what.
And I want them on billboards and posters etc, like Connor said in very early screenshots. But of course, that would mean they only show up if players place those sort of objects in the neighbourhood. I just don’t want popups or anything like that, but I guess I wouldn’t care so much if say there was a small banner or something at the bottom of the user interface for CAS or whatever, just as long as it wasn’t too in your face.
