Over at SnootySim’s forums, MTCason posted a note that the Prima Guide arrived on their doorstep. Cason goes into detail of the information that is available in the guide! I’ll post a little bit from their post, but head on over there yourself as it’ll continue to be updated!
There is no way in heck I’m going to list all of the moodlets available. Suffice it to say, the developers have put a LOT of thought into them, both positive and negative modifiers, and there are, as I count, 180 in the game, ranging from Duck Time (Rubber duckies make hygenic cleansing fun!) to Out After Curfew! (being out after curfew is totally radical), to Garlic Breath (Whoa! It might be time to scrub away that garlic with a toothbrush) and Technophobia (Some Sims really can’t stand watching the TV no matter the channel). I am stunned by how complex the moodlet system is.
On a similar note, I won’t be listing each and every Wish, either. There are more than 500. Yes, 500 you can choose for your Sim. One I find interesting right off the bat, though, in looking at the first few listed, is a Divorce wish you may have available to you should your Sim be found in an unhappy marriage. Your Sim may want to end that marriage!
Pay rises don’t stop when you reach the top of a given career ladder. Keep at it, and every time your performance meter fills, your Sim gets another raise. By this little perk, it’s worth it to keep at a job, conceivably, until you kick over and die. Elder sims are no longer forced to retire. You can keep right on working until the Grim Reaper comes calling, if you like. Or, like in TS2, you can retire and live off of a pension based on your career and the career level you were at when you retired.
Every job brings with it inherent perks. These are no longer objects, but more new things you can do at work for very real benefits (like extra money, positive mood/moodlets, and new social interactions), and there are many of these for each career, rather than just one little benefit per career. These, too, I won’t list for both the sheer number of them, as well as the fact that I don’t want to spoil too much, either for you or myself!
Your kids can now get detention at school! If they are caught sleeping in class or copying homework (tasks you can assign your kids while they’re at school), they’ll be kept after school for a few hours, which can interfere with any part time job. While staying late, the student cannot chose their tone and they will not see any improvement in grades or performance. When detention is over, the schoolbus takes the student home.
Your kids may still bring home friends after school. They can also be invited over to another student’s house to play. Students who go to each other’s houses will live within a reasonable distance from each other. The closer the other student, the more likely the invitation is.
There are 79 different books you can buy from the bookstore, many of which bring skills and fulfill needs, as well as inspiring moodlets.
There are 29 different products you can buy from the Supermarket. These are not only produce, fish, meat and cheese, but also a number of housewares. You can also sell off your grown fruit and veg here for profit.
There are 15 different treatments you can have done to/for your Sim at the spa. These bring moodlets, some of which last for days and bring very real and measurable benefits for your Sims.
If a Service Sim your Sim knows dies, you can find their marker at the graveyard and bring it home, allowing their ghost to serve you for all eternity!
Death is final. But that does not mean they are necessarily gone forever. If you install a grave marker, your departed Sim will haunt the area around it, usually after around 11 PM. Ghosts can and will interact with objects on the lot, making noise and generally creeping out the living. Different sims have different reactions to ghosts or haunted objects, which ghosts may possess, causing chairs to levitate and things of that nature. Remember when I said death was final? Well, that’s actually only 80% true. If a loved one dies and you have their marker, there is a chance you will get a call from the Landgraab Industries Science Facility. The scientists have found a way to reverse death! Choose the Restore Ghost option at the Science Facility to bring your loved one back from the dead. Sort of. It turns out technology isn’t perfect. Your loved one is returned to you as a playable ghost. They appear as a selectable Sim, with all of the regular interactions and socials. They can develop skills, cook, and attempt to live a regular life in Sunset Valley. If the departed Sim is a young adult or adult, they can Woohoo and even Try for Baby. If a child is conceived, there is a chance it will be a Ghost Baby. You can actually start an entire ghost family this way. There is no mention as to whether or not ghosts have motive decay, but apparently they do get moodlets and wishes just like ‘live’ sims.
You can now engrave tombstones to chisel an epitaph of your choice.
Watching the most expensive TVs in high-definition gives the Pristine Picture moodlet.
Searching the galaxy with a telescope gives you a chance to find celestial bodies, for which you’ll be rewarded with extra cash!
TS3 comes not only with the traditional light fixtures we’ve come to expect from Sim games, but also candles, which you can light or extinguish for ambient lighting. These cannot set your lot on fire, so you don’t have to worry if you accidentally forget to blow one out.
Women (and men) love a man (or woman) in uniform. The military career brings with it an added perk: you’ll unlock special interactions at your base, Show Sim the Jet and Show Sim the Spaceship, both of which will really boost your romance meter!
does this exact book come with the Sims 3 collectors edition?
Oh man, I CAN’t WAIT!!!
viv, no — the book that comes with the CE is a hints and tips guide. It’s probably a small pamphlet.
I love the game it is awesome!!! I’ve haven’t stopped playing it yet!
Are you kidding me? I bought the CE b/c I thought that it came with the guide. I am so mad now. I knew I would get ripped off.
You didn’t get ripped off. You just didn’t pay attention to what was being offered in the CE.
i have the sims 3 CE and i LUUURVE the little plumbob usb drive..can’t wait to get my compy back from geek squad so i can play the game..next on the list..collecter tip guide with mouspad..ooh yeeeaa hehe
The way the description for the collectors guide was decieving. When you see a Prima guide, irrespective of wording, you associate that with a big book – not a 10 page pamphlet with some general hints and tips that really only go to serve someone new to the whole Sims genre – kinda defeats the purpose of it being a “collectors” edition, given that someone new wouldn’t necessarily buy it – it would most certainly be targetted towards the more established “hardcore” fan. To that end, I personally feel paying the extra £15 for it was, unfortunately, a joke and a very cruel one. a 2gb USB drive, which essentially is all you get with the CE, is certainly not worth that sort of money, novelty or not. Different people will have differing opinions, but on the whole, the Collectors Edition is not worth the extra money – stick with the standard edition unless you really want a PlumBob USB drive (anyone who wants to buy mine is welcome to contact me).
Just an opinion, nothing more or less.
You’re right on the Prima hints and tip guide…I was expecting a small book…I payed the same price for the Spore Galactic Edition and it came with a lot more than what we got with the Sims 3 CE…
Oi, Wolfy. If you are serious about selling the Plumbob, lemme know. My girlfriend is a fan but the machine wont run it.
