With The Sims currently in it’s 16th year, you can bet that there has been plenty of time for EA/Maxis to have some fun and implement a few “easter eggs” here and there.
What is an Easter Egg exactly? Sure you’ve got the chocolate eggs you get at Easter, but in video game terms it’s a reference in-game to something.
Let’s go through the history of The Sims and check out just a few of the Easter eggs that developers have left for us to discover.
Hidden Startup Image
Did you know that if you click the ‘Maxis’ logo on The Sims 1 launcher that you’d be greeted by a secret image of Will Wright?
Where Are You, Nessie?
In The Sims 1, if you looked really closely on the neighbourhood screen, you would catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster. Funnily enough, this Easter Egg made a return to the franchise in The Sims 4 Get Together.
Freezer Bunny
Introduced in The Sims 2, the fan-favourite Freezer Bunny can be found hiding on a juice box within the freezers on community lots. Freezer Bunny has since made many appearances throughout the Sims franchise.
Roaring Heights
In The Sims 3 Roaring Heights, if you look closely at the city hall you’ll spot the early Sims 4 renders engraved into the building.
Tragic Clown
While Tragic Clown was a thing in The Sims 1, he did make somewhat of an appearance in The Sims 3. You can find him at the graveyard, or if you look closely you’ll see him on the milk cartons.
Sims Forever
In The Sims 4, your Sims can look back at the past by playing “Sims Forever” on the computer.
Spore Reference
Spore, released by Maxis in 2008, also got a mention in The Sims. Not only is there references in The Sims 3, but in The Sims 4 your Sims can paint a picture of an alien from the game. Plus, there’s also an outfit with the Spore logo on.
Finally… literal Easter Eggs
Yes. The Sims 3 had actual Easter Eggs in The Sims 3 Seasons for your Sims to collect, as does The Sims 4 with it’s Spring Challenge.
Are there any Easter Eggs in The Sims franchise that we’ve missed? Let us know on social media or in the comments!
With thanks to The Sims Wiki for help with some of the “easter eggs” referenced.
Its Sunny, not Sonny. ^^
