Popgun is a company who help define The Sims brand by creating concept art, box art, logos and more. They’ve recently released images of some of the work that they’ve done for The Sims 3. This ranges from potential box art, DVD designs and retail floor displays.
It’s always interesting to see the stages that artwork goes through and how it varies from concept to the final version. You can browse through the gallery below to see some of the work Popgun has done for The Sims brand.

One eye-catching thing about these concepts is the choice of ‘The Sims World’ for some of the logo concepts. Could this have been the original name of The Sims 3, due to the addition of the open world? Or could it have been what The Sims Online/EA-Land was going to become before it was retired in August 2008?

I am surprised people don’t know this… The thing is that TheSims3 was planned to be an online game. You could go to a town and meet up with your online friends and do stuff but the whole concept was scratched due to technical issues. The game was unstable so the online interactions were scraped. Talking about performance, we all know that TS3’s final build still isn’t stable. Even on high-end PCs there is massive lag and game crash so it’s easy to imagine what a bigger mess it could be with online interactions. So TS3 came out as another good old fashioned sims game without any revolutionary content in it which is sad but hey maybe in future we will see such things as online gameplay with your friends etc.
