This is something interesting, EA are transforming all their games into online universes β will be see another Sims Online out of the ashes? I do hope so, since TSO/EA-Land was just amazing.
EA is turning all of its brands into what it calls "online universes".
At EA’s UK showcase this week, EA’s Northern Europe boss Keith Ramsdale said all of EA’s game franchises, including FIFA, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Star Wars, The Sims and Need for Speed, were being transformed in this way.
This means more than simple online play, Ramsdale explained. It involves being able to play a "brand" across multiple devices, each one contributing to a singular goal – and profile.
Ramsdale used FIFA by way of an example. "Imagine a player gets up in the morning, plays an online match on his 360 before going to work," he said. "On the bus, on his way to work, he practices his free kicks on his tablet. At lunch he looks at the transfer window on his PC. On the way home he chooses his kit on his smartphone.
Ah, services that will be “retired” after 12-18 months then. Also pretty much confirms that Sims 4 will be online-only if this is the direction they’re going.
It scares me a little, I’ll wait to see what’s coming with that but not sure it will be good π
Surprise surprise – NOT!
I have no hope for an online version of TSO to be the same what we want, it will NOT be the same, as long as EA is holding all the cards it’s gonna be a failure.
Honestly, I see no problem in this. The Sims 4 multiplayer servers won’t be shut down for a LONG time and it sounds pretty cool. I’ve played TSO/EA Land before. It was definitely fun and nice, had loads of potential to be better.
That`s good, right now P4F and online games are the only ones we can actually have fun and a EA staff that gives us what we want. Unlike some game we were fans all this time –‘
I do hope Sims 4 has a multiplayer mode – like TSO – even if it’s a bit like how MySims worked, but not multiplayer only.
Guess i’m a foogy then. I want just console games, just pc games, If I want an online game, I play it. … I give up and throw in the towel with technology. It’ll hit the proverbial brick wall and cannot evolve for awhile…then a new genius will come along and the next big thing happens. Wonder if EA ever considered what would happen if the net crashes/goes down perminantly….way too dependant on online stuff as it is. I wash my hands of this crap
The comments on the linked article are hysterical. I couldn’t stop laughing.
I hope The Sims 4 is online, I miss TSO a lot. I ordered the chartered edition just to have the other day too.
Well, if that’s the way EA is going, it’s bye-bye time for this long-time fan π
Yeah this is great, until EA shuts down the servers, and the internet becomes less popular.
It’s like EA with TS3 and Facebook. We all know Facebook’s popularity will eventually die out. Anyone remember Myspace? That site used to be quite popular in the early to mid 2000’s, then in the late 2000’s the popularity died out.
This is the fate that Facebook will have, and with the decline of FB and the FB features still included with TS3, it equals failure on EA’s behalf.
This is why online features should never be included in a video game. It’s best for games to remain off-line only. Especially games as complex and open-ended like The Sims series.
