Look what Rincón del Simmer found!
Toby Marvin was an interface designer of The Sims 3 when it was in development, and has published in his profile on Coroflot two images belonging to a loading screen ruled out as a preliminary version of the game launcher (it seems that The Sims 3 was in the version 0.0.0.6174.
This is a concept I came up to the loading screen of The Sims 3. The concept was that the clouds fall from the top and bounced to a stop (as do the menus of the interface) as the progress bar fills up. The clouds are dynamic so it’s never the same twice. The “Globe pig” is one of many flying objects in the game and sometimes one of them float on the loading screen to mix. This was not put in the final game, as it was considered a low priority compared to many other tasks.
I feel sorry for Rincon. Sims.mixei.ru found this first! http://sims.mixei.ru/the-sims-3-novosti/rabochaya-versiya-ekrana-zagruzki-i-launchera-bazovoj-igry-the-sims-3.html
I miss the floating pigs. All my Sims 2 neighborhoods had them when I played this weekend.
This is the thing that annoys me about the “powers to be”, “considered a low priority compared to many other tasks”. All of these ‘low priorities’ MADE The Sims (1) and The Sims 2 what the game was.
This is awesome to say the least and looks cool (the loading screen concept)
There’s a link to my site in that page.
It’s sad this didnt make it into the final game. it is just so neat, they need more little creative/interactive tweaks like these, not social interfacing…
TBS, here you can take the pictures in full size http://www.coroflot.com/tobymarvin/The-Sims-3-UI-Work
Wow, that’s so much better and sim-like than the final thing.
