So we all know that with Showtime there will be new “highly requested” social features. Yeah, right. Anyways, there’s a new site post on thesims3.com that explains about the upcoming My Page changes, the social features and a screen shot of what our profiles will look like.
As many of you have heard since our announcement of The Sims 3 Showtime Expansion Pack, we’re integrating amazing, all-new connected features both in-game and through new functions to your My Page on www.TheSims3.com in order to give you new ways to connect with your friends and others within The Sims world like never before!
We’re offering new ways for you to socialize with your friends while you’re playing The Sims 3, including how people share news, chat with their friends and participate in achievements.
The Sims is a franchise that puts you in the driver’s seat and allows you to express your creativity and tell stories. All of the new online, social features being introduced are optional. It’s all up to you and the way you choose to play and share.

Most people hate what they’re doing but I think it’s a good move, it will get more people using their site as personally I go on there to download things and now and again for the exchange. Also it looks quite nice.
I could care less, I only use the website to chat on the forums and download stuff.

I wouldnt be so pissed at it if it werent for the fact that some objects are gonna be tied to it. I dont have a facebook and I have 0 simmer friends. How in the world am I gonna get those objects? Im already paying $40 for the game, at least they could give me all that comes with it.

Simple – you wait until Pescado updates AwesomeMod to remove those crappy requirements.
Personally? The only time I use the official site is to spend the remaining SimPoints I acquired way back in 2009 when I bought the game. I have no interest in the forums and even less interest in all this social media crap that’s being rammed down our throats. In fact, I don’t think I even bothered to look at my own profile over there because like the Sims 2 BBS, I knew from the off it would be a complete and utter waste of time.
There are far better places for me to go to. If I want to look at the latest mods in one place, I go to MS3B; if I want to be called a tard but still get a straightforward answer to my questions, I go to MATY, and finally if I want the latest news about EA screwing up what’s left of the Sims franchise, I come here. I certainly never bother with the official forums.
. . .i really dislike facebook quite strongly now, I was not fond of it before, but now it is messing in everything I enjoy entertainment wise…I keep hoping it’ll pass on soon like any other fad people mindlessly flock to…Seems like everything has to have facebook/twitter attached to it nowadays, I get why businesses do it, but frankly the average joe-blow isnt interesting enough, that and the fact it highlights everyone’s raving narssisism that they need an fb page.
totally agree with you uknortherner, why on earth will I want to go their official site when simprograms refresh/update the news way faster than them?

What is MATY and what is it exactly that you can download illegally? I am hoping like the other hidden content that you either have to earn or find that their will be a cheat to get them. Like buydebug for example.

Sorry, I thought you meant items that are downloadable(or so called unlock) when you use social features.
They may be doing it today. They’re going down for maintence at 4pm pacific however the forums are already down. The whole site will be going down later.
