Yes! Here’s some Origin and Non-Sims news. Recently it was announced that Battle Field 3 through would not be sold through Steam. Now it has been revealed by EA that gamers who buy BF3 at retail, MUST have Origin installed on their PC or they can NOT run the game. Sucks for them!!!
DICE Community Manager Daniel Martos (via BF3Blog) confirmed the Origin client will be necessary for those who purchased the game at retail. It’s unclear at this time if Origin will be required even if the game is purchased digitally from other online stores.

No offense but “Sucks for them!!!” makes you sound childish and rude. 😐
But then couldn’t that mean this may eventually happen to The Sims as well? That’s not good.
It’s not ideal but it takes all of like 3 minutes to download it and install it. If The Sims ever “requires” Origin, then I don’t particularly care since I have it installed already anyway.
Maybe they think making people play through Origin would stop pirates from playing the game?
Valve games require Steam. EA games requiring Origin. Makes sense.
