But, cats and dogs have a different family branch, just like in Pets for The Sims 2, I think they’ll do the same for The Sims 3.
I love the idea of a big country family! 😀
You could always use the AwesomeMod to bypass the family limit of 8, but I get the drift.
As the pets seem to be part of the family I hope they’ve increased the number of Sims allowed for families from 8 to something larger like 12 or more!
They soon add up:

Mum
Dad
Son 1
Son 2
Daughter 1
Daughter 2
Dog 1
Cat 1
Horse 1
That’s 11 and that’s just a simple family!
Yes, but it was still very limited, you could have upto 8 Sims and 6 Pets but only up to 10 altogether.
It needs to be up to 8 of each to be realistic! Think of a big country family:

Son 2
Daughter 1
Daughter 2
Dog 1
Dog 2
Cat 1
Horse 1
Horse 2
Horse 3
Horse 4
Horse 5
That’s 16, then add in of you want any of them to breed!!
