The following article from N-Europe doesn’t mention The Sims but instead some of their other franchises. However, common sense can say that EA is milking The Sims series for what its worth, I just wish they would actually do what they say instead of continuing to milk their games.
“If you go back seven years, we were the leader. And we dropped the ball. Our IP deteriorated, our costs went up, and we didn’t really have an answer for the rise of digital… Need For Speed ended up flat on its back. That annual sequel thing got to us. That was a very tough business run. We just didn’t have the portfolio.”
You can catch the full story of what EA CEO John Riccitiello has to say over at VG 24/7. Thanks to The Black Scorpion for sending this link my way.
I think EA just need to slow down with The Sims. At first I thought Medieval might be a bit much, but that’s actually looking out to be a fairly decent spin-off, but retail releases of new worlds that aren’t even as good as player creations, on top of all the store stuff they’ve got going on, AND stuff packs as well…There’s just too much. They also charge way too much for things these days as well. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that the Ultra furniture DLC for the console version was £10…that’s a quarter of the cost of the game.
I used to love the franchise, but my interest is dwindling due to the excessive amount of milking as well as all the issues and bugs we keep getting with each release. That and the EPs haven’t been that great in my opinion.
*Sigh*
Medieval is Rod Humble’s last project at EA. At least EA is finally admitting to milking their games. The Sims has been milked the most. i wish they now finally realize that if they want their users to keep giving them money and if they are gonna keep shooting out games that they need to listen to the community. That and they need to FIX their games! Maybe breath life back into SimCity too instead of spinning off The Sims into other games again.
Now that Humble is gone, give the next 2 ep’s time. He would have influenced the next ep, but the new studio head will do the one after. Apparently it’s Tim LeTourneau, he has been with The Sims since the very beginning… he knows what players want but he is the head now apparently, so hoorah!
I think the sims may try to revive the game and fix it… really it needs to be done now because the sims 3 is the same as windows vista… they will release the sims 4 to replace it, a polished sims 3…
the sims 4 is still years away. and if he is in charge he better do a better job than Rod. I’m curious to who is Grant’s replacement. and if they don’t fix all of the bugs and glitches i’m not buying/playing any EA game ever again. just tried to revive my vampire ghost and nothing happened. then Crash! i should have bought the discs instead of the digital… no refund 🙁
