Rod Humble spoke with CNN about the 10th anniversary of The Sims series, pretty much the same information we’re familiar with in past anniversary interviews. Is it just me or should they have done something bigger than The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff and a few freebie items?
In 2009, the franchise continued to evolve and “The Sims 3” launched, allowing players to explore a world that was open and “real.”
Humble said they expanded the simulation from individual households to entire towns and communities. So players could watch a neighbor move in, go through their lives and move away, and that neighbor would not entirely disappear from the game as in previous incarnations.
“We’re extending the simulations from being hamsters in a cage where we’re just simulating each individual person to extending that network across the entire town,” Humble said. “I wanted this idea that you could bump into anybody in the ‘Sims 3’ world, and, not to be stalkerish, you could follow them home. You could see their life.”
It’s not just you Jud. They should have done something a lot more than what they’ve done. But lets face it. The people at EA don’t know how to do such stuff. The facts are speaking for themselves.
We never got a real collectors edition. Yes, the USB with Sims 3 is great but the package as a whole was nowhere near a collector’s one. It was limited edition.
When I think of a collector’s edition I want a CD with the music, a “Making of” DVD that describes the process of making of the game not just some shoots with the producers describing how great it was (like they did with Spore’s Making of). There must be an art book or in The Sims’ case – a book with sketches of furniture, people, arhitectural stuff and description with it by the artist explaining what is the proces of creating and implementing it in the game. Of course in the package can be included a poster, a mousepad, a calendar, a key chain, maybe some real badges. Everything must come in a beautiful box.
There can be lots of stuff but EA don’t want to think that way. The base game is made for about 4-5 years. That’s a lot of time invested in it and it’s a shame not to make a propper collector’s edition.
I was hoping we would get something like a collector’s edition for the 10th anniversary but we got a crappy edition that was targetting the 10 years old public. What was that book with the open-me-here-and-find-my-secret theme.
It’s time EA to start thinking of us as adults and do some mature stuff. Late Night is a step up but still the advertising is lacking depth and thoughtfulness. The trailer for the new EP is good but the new adds (meh). Only the base game advertising campaing was at least decent. Now they are making adds as if it’s a game for (I don’t want to use a stronger word) stupid people.
I agree with you both. I think that they’ve become too lazy.
