During the EA 2010 Showcase, when Rod Humble came out to show off the latest from The Sims Label, he made a short blurb about a new game in the franchise. No, he did not make any mention of the name, but he did say that they were experimenting with taking The Sims thru various time periods (spin-offs) and that they have the game ready to be shown behind close doors – for those from big game publications like IGN and GameSpot. This is no doubt The Sims Medieval which has been rumored at in the past. Hopefully they won’t keep us in suspense for too long, I am curious to know about it! I wonder what other time periods they’ll decide to venture to.
I enjoyed the Sims Castaway, but not enough to replay it more than a few times.
Honestly, instead of a standalone game, I’d rather have a medieval expansion pack for the Sims 3.
I’d love it if they just made a time travel expansion pack. It would be cool to hop in the time machine, choose a destination and then go there. That would be WAY more interesting than WA ever was.
The problem with Castaway and the others is that were too much like Sims 3. Yes, you could live on a tropical island and all that but you could do that in Sims 3 as well. I don’t have a problem with a stand-alone Sims 3 Medieval game if it actually uses what we have now in Sims 3 in a medieval setting..or any other time setting.
For example, having them separate solves problems with dependence on cars, electronics (phones) and other modern items. Instead, the game can be built to use horses, eliminate phones, substitute things for televisions, treadmills, and replace other modern objects. I imagine this might be difficult to do in the original Sims 3 game since so much of the activity revolves around these objects. Imagine your medieval sims making a living by farming (maybe with animals), fishing, crafting items used by the sims…all of which could be an EP but would be difficult without incorporating the modern items already in the game.
So as long as this game uses the basics from Sims 3 including open hood, skills, opportunities, personality traits and all that jazz along with eliminating modern items and replacing them with historically accurate items, I will be thrilled with the game. And it won’t overload my computer with items I don’t need..such as modern toilets for a medieval game or computers or cars…It will be like playing a streamlined Sims 3 just for a specific time period.
