Reader Srikandi left an important comment here yesterday about IGN’s recent preview on The Sims 3 Ambitions. It appears that the Create-A-Pattern feature will not be included in a new patch but rather a separate tool of its own:
“We also learned about the Create a Pattern tool, a downloadable tool which will be released to registered users from TheSims3.com on July 28. This tool will allow players to use existing stickers or import their own pictures or other graphics and modify them in order to make patterns for walls or other items (though this will not make tattoos). Players can place dozens of images on a single pattern in up to four layers. Additional layers will allow for background colors and specularity.”
Sounds even better, a (hopefully) simple tool to use for those who have yet to get used to the existing custom programs that are currently out there. I just hope we’re switched to our new servers then. June and July are going to be very busy behind-the-scenes 😉
Is there really a lot of traffic and demand for some of the large file sizes that are hosted at SimPrograms? I think that most users enjoy the site for the news. I have occasionally browsed the programs section, but never even looked at the patches section. Does site traffic really justify the need for new servers?
I’m just asking because I love this site and I don’t want server space to ever become an issue for you guys.
We’re running on an old Pentium 4 server….with about a 50GB harddrive and I think 2GB of RAM. We’ll be bumping that up to a Dual Core Processor with a 500GB and I think 4GB.
And to answer your question, a lot. Since January of this year, the site has used 9TB of bandwidth…. I think I’m the second popular site on their servers. So a move is well worth it (I do believe the site does take time to load for you guys…I’d love for it to speed up like normal sites) 🙂
I have been on this sight for about 4 months and it is very fast. And by the way, today is the most users ever online. Also, what are Bots? right now the sight says, “8 Guests, 5 Bots”.
It’s a flaw with the WP UserOnline plugin. The update before broke the site, then the newest (current) update messes up the total amount of visitors…Hopefully it’ll be back to normal by the next few days.
You’re right, the site takes at least 10+ seconds to load for me, it’s doing what The Sim Supply did for me before I upgraded. I can’t wait for the extra space, hopefully it’ll load a lot quicker 😀
