We know that ‘The Sims 3’ is slated to come to consoles and handhelds as EA CEO John Riccitiello mentioned it in the fiscal report back in early February. Yet it hasn’t been confirmed to what they’ll appear on. The Nintendo DS is a safe bet now as a folder was spotted titled ‘Sims 3 DS’ during Richard Evans’ powerpoint presentation about “Modeling individual personalities in The Sims 3.”
Richard Evans is an AI Specialist working at EA/Maxis on the Sims franchise, so it would make sense that he had some unreleased materials floating around his computer. As he was preparing his laptop (while plugged into the audience facing screens) the entire room got a look at the folder shortcuts on his personal machine.
While he was loading his PowerPoint slides, I was frantically reading folder names to try and see anything interesting. Well, there was. A folder entitled “Sims 3 DS” was nestled in between a few nondescript folders (SimpleSocializing and Tester).

Aw man, well-spotted eagle-eyes! ; )
Sort of dumb of him to show the contents of his computer to an entire audience, though… maybe it’s not possible to turn on the projector after the presentation is ready!
But surely there’s a chance that DS could stand for something else?
I know he won awards for this work on Black & White, but the AI in TS3 seems awfully lacking. The Story Progression is broken and the illusion of a living, breathing town quickly fades away as you discover your beloved sims moving away, changing jobs, and dying for no reason.
