An article appeared on The Escapist which discusses modding in World of Warcraft, Civilization 4, Warhammer 40,000 and of course, The Sims. While modding may of originally came out of the fact that modders wanted items/features for themselves, now they mostly create to show off their talent and get their ’15 minutes of fame’.

A familiar modder from the Sims modding community made the story – Stefano Caldarone (aka Numenor), known for the CEP Color Enable Package for The Sims 2.  He went on to quote how he came into the modding scene:

“Frankly, I didn’t want to get involved, but one of my colleagues somehow convinced me into helping out, thinking that I was much more skilled that I actually was. Since I didn’t want to make him think poorly of me, I worked hard to understand what he explained me.”

I bet at the time he first released the CEP package, he wasn’t aware how big it would become for The Sims 2…

“All the people that praised me for my creations … I really appreciated their enthusiasm, and felt the need to go on satisfying them. You can have your 15 minutes of fame, and it’s thrilling! If you are lucky and skilled, maybe it’s more than 15 minutes … but it’s fatiguing, too.”

Way to go, Numenor!   ^_^
