Here is the article from GameSpot:

And the winner is…

The Sims 3

GameSpot’s Best Games of 2009 Editors’ Choice WinnerWhile 2009 brought us some fantastic strategy games, it was the one that simulates the intricacies of everyday life that won the hearts of our editors. The Sims 3 takes the gameplay established in the previous two games and expands on it in new and exciting ways, resulting in a rich experience with a lot more depth. And like in previous games, in The Sims 3 you’re free to live your virtual life however you see fit. Whether that means getting married and having kids or becoming a popular movie star, the real strategy comes into play in achieving whatever goals you’ve set for your virtual self using the game’s enhanced lifetime wish system.

While much of what we’ve described could also be applied to previous games in the series, The Sims 3 builds upon this basic foundation to deliver the deepest and most rewarding Sims game yet. For example, your house no longer resides in a virtual vacuum and instead is part of an entire ecosystem, where neighboring sims grow and age alongside you. Small touches such as this lend a greater aura of believability to the Sims universe, making it all the easier to lose yourself in it.

You know a game is special when the mundane tasks of everyday life, such as searching for a job, shopping for furniture, or trying to save enough money to buy a house, are turned into a compelling gameplay experience that will leave you wanting more.

Just in time for Christmas! 🙂 🙂
