Sigh…so the patch decided to change the way the game was saved thus the reason with all of the Error 16 problems. Hey, EA…would be nice to make note of this before it installed itself into the game. I don’t think I’ve seen such as big of a mess since the Sims 2 FreeTime DRM incident. Looks as if EA Customer Support created a page for those having this issue, stating to use the ‘Save-As’ method until the Sims team can work things out:

AnswerWith the release of The Sims 3 World Adventures and Patch 1.6 for The Sims 3 base game, the way in which the game creates save files has changed.
We have received reports from users who are experiencing errors while saving their game (Error Code 16). The Sims 3 team is aware of this issue and working on a fix, which will be released soon.
In the meantime, we have tested the following workaround, which should enable you to continue saving your games.
- Launch The Sims 3.
- Open the game you wish to play.
- Use Save As instead of the Save option.
- Rename your file. You must rename your file to something entirely different than any of your pre-existing save files.
A new save file should now be created, which should allow you to play the game as usual, and use the Save feature. (In other words, you only need to Save As and rename your file once.)
Note: You will not encounter this issue by creating a new game.
This is great but does this fully fix the patch? Because I thought there were many more errors including slowing down the game.
Most likely it’ll only work for Error 16. All the other fun stuff like missing traits, lifetime rewards, etc. will still remain.
I never had problem with error 16 until the release of the latest patch. My Sims launcher auto updated to version 2.4 just a couple of days ago, and now I too have this error. Yet when I search the EA site it says this was solved with patch 1.7. What a surprise *sarcastic*. I even tried this work around. It did not work. I still get the error code 16 when trying “save as…” instead.
After all the problems I had with EA customer service while playing Sims 2, I cannot believe I wasted even more money on this companies work. People buy the base game and upwards of 7 expansions plus stuff packs and you people still treat the consumer as if we are nothing but a bother to you. Get it together EA!

This does not work for me. Everytime I try to load any game (I used save as) it comes up with serious error, we strongly recommend restarting the application.
I have done this many times.
It’s looking like I wont be able to play to game (if I want to have a save file anyway) until they fix this problem. But the question is, will I be willing to wait until they do that?
It seems strange to me that on the release of a patch they failed to overlook something as simple as a save error. But then I realise that they don’t care if people can’t work the game properly! As long as they bought it!
I’m very disappointed in the recent quality of EAs Sims 3 series, several errors have occued in my games causing me to lose several files. I am not sure if I will continue to but the Sims 3 expansion packs.
I download the new Sims 3 update and then bought Sims 3 ambitions and Generations i then started to encounter error 16 🙁 i was very upset and my game was constantly slowing down…. this is very bad, i am disappointed!
about error 16, try this: go to documents/electronic arts/the sims medieval/ you should have the name of your kingdom in the folder with tsm.backup. copy these files to folder with exact name but without backup. it worked in my case. good luck 🙂

name.tsm.backup and copy in here the files from name.tsm
I have tried this and other things but it docent work! I have lost all my saved files. I have the original sims, sims 2 and 5 expansion packs for it, I have the sims 3 and 3 expansion packs, like I have spent a load of money on these games, and they don’t even work! I am not pleased AT ALL!!
It doesn’t work. I have tried practically everything and the funny thing is that I have definetly downloaded Patch 7 and 8 – which are supposed to solve this problem.) I am really upset about this as all my saved games have had a lot of effort put into them. I have had some of them for over a year now. EA, you seriously need to check for any problems BEFORE you release another game.
