Awhile back, Dead Rising 2 developer Josh Bridge worked on a prototype version of a simulated Simpsons game, dubbed as ‘The Simp-sims’.  The first playable version allowed the player to control Homer Simpson, interacting with items found in his living room:

Interacting with different items in the room triggered a reaction from the bald star — turning off the TV made him mad, and turning the lights on and off would scare him. “Although it lacked gameplay originality, it was still fun to manipulate Homer and watch him eventually break down spinning on the floor screaming,” he says.

The game was shelved as the powers that be wanted it to be in 3D.  A branch off of this idea was implemented in the DS version of The Simpsons game with a virtual Pet Homer where you could stuff Homer’s face and prevent him from choking, as well as bath him and other misc. activities.

We know that EA has the rights to the Simpsons brand…and the current games haven’t been well accepted.  I’m surprised they don’t put these two together, after all, The Sims series is the highest selling PC game of all time, and The Simpsons is perhaps one of the most popular cartoon shows of all time.  It seems like a perfect idea.
