30 days for MySims Games, and 120 days for Sims 3.  That’s roughly how long a recording session usually takes the simlish voice actors to do their job.  And according to the following article and video from BritishGaming, it is not a walk in the park! One of the voice actors – Bill Cameron – goes through the process of watching a Sim on a monitor in a soundproof room and has to painstakingly create their voice just by watching an animation…with a little help from his co-worker, Marielle Jakobsons.

“Bill writes all of the Simlish for when actors come in”, Robi explained. When singers come in to rerecord their songs for the game, anyone from the Black Eyed Peas to more recently Pixie Lott, it’s his job to ‘translate’ the songs, and has been doing that for the last three years. He also is in charge of the Simlish dictionary, a document which gradually builds up over time, although is pretty much discarded every few years. A few ‘cheat sheets’ exist around the office, consisting of lines of short meaningless phrases, although it took a bit of digging around to find it, as the more frequent Simlish actors can come up with appropriate sounding lines in seconds.

Too bad they don’t release the Simlish dictionary out into public…I know quite a few would love to be able to speak Simlish…myself included!  Check out the full article over at BritishGaming, it’s a must read for any fans interested in Simlish!
