SimCookie created an image gallery of the old Simsville project Maxis decided to drop in 2001. These pictures brought back memories, as the first time I saw them was in a PC gaming magazine. Heh, even though Maxis had a good excuse to ditch the project, I wouldn’t mind playing it.
Drop by SimCookie to see the artwork if you too are interested!
I agree. Although we were just getting used to seeing our sims away from home with the “Hot Date” EP, I would have still liked to play Simsville as I still feel it filled a gap between The Sims and SimCity (3000).
I loved SimCity 3000…Probably more than 4. If I ever get two 1 Terrabyte harddrives (perhaps in the fall to celebrate Windows 7) I think I’m going to install all of my games again.
um, you ARE playing it!!! It’s the Sims 3! Sigh….
I would have loved this game! I was devastated when it was cancelled. A shame Maxis never released it as open source. I agree with Stephen’s comment though, The Sims 3 is probably a better version of SimsVille….
While yes, various aspects branched off into The Sims 3 and other Sims expansions, I mean playing the actual game itself. Sims 3 isn’t a direct comparison 🙂
Wouldn’t each building in the game be a rabbit hole, while you could watch your Sims outside, playing in the backyard or eating outdoors at the cafe?
I remember when I first got the first EP of Sims 1 in the fall of 2000 (titled Livin’ Large) and during the installation it showed a little preview of this game and I remember a firetruck storming through the street. It had announced the released for 2001 and when it was canceled, I, too, was bummed. We weren’t able to play directly with the actual Sims but we were able to see their details and happenings, etc. So that, to me, would’ve been the perfect SimCity-like game because you get focus on building AND still know about each resident’s life. As for TS3 being similar, nah, not really. It’s still more Sims-driven and you don’t have to build anything if you don’t want to, whereas SimsVille was going to be a true combination of both SimCity and The Sims because you still had to build places to succeed snd make your Sims happy and you had to take care of the Sims but in a non-direct way. There is a big difference. But oh well. I’m still satisfied with Sims 3 because at least we get the non-loading-screen-to-go-everywhere-in-town gameplay.
Am I the only one who remembers Cassandra being 14 years old in this game? Or should I say, she was going to be if the game had never been canceled. And remember that they were going to have journals detailing their lives? That would’ve been cool. I think the Goths and Newbies were the only families that I remember that were going to be in the game.
