I don’t understand. If you’re given the chance to conduct an interview with a game developer, why is it that most of the time the questions asked are things you can find answers to on google in less than five minutes? Why not put some thought and…perhaps ask some questions about details we may not be aware of…
Anyway, Sims 3 Nieuws found the following interview from Skewed & Reviewed in which they contacted The Sims 3 team. If you already play the game…you’re not really going to discover any new details regarding their work.
What engine is the game using and what are some of the new features it will offer gamers?
The Sims 3 uses an internally developed engine. The new engine allows us to have the entire town come to life with each character having their schedules. The new engine also allowed us to give more creative freedom for our Animators. There are more nuanced facial animations for example. And that the objects and the clothing can be customized on the fly by the Player in game is a testament to the hard work of our engineering team.

I bet this is what my Spore interview will be like! Most questions were about GA, which is out now. But there are some other questions.
Still waiting back from MaxisCactus
Yeah it looks more like a glorified press release then an honest interview.
Very simple answer to your questions. One, all questions are sent several weeks in advance and must be approved by the Team and PR. Secondly, the answer only what they want to or are allowed to so you have to ask basic questions and allow them to expand on them if they chose so. If you ask anything to probing or specific, you do not get an interview. Standard format is to ask questions for those who do not know anything about a game and expand upon it.
Hey Gareth,
Thanks for taking the time to clarify your points. I now see your side and understand the process. I just wish that the game developers are not so restricted! It’d be nice to get to know some behind-the-scenes questions for a change. It’s just that a majority of the interviews are repeat the same basic questions – if only they were able to answer differently!
