And that catch would be…it’s a little time consuming and can be hard. But yes, it’s true. Delphy created a tool to pack new patterns into the game. Technically, his tool isn’t what is difficult, it’s the processor of creating the new pattern. Unforunately there is no “poof” magic import option. In fact, it’s very time consuming, requiring effort and skill. Although some patterns can technically be imported (like wood grain where you don’t want to choose more than one colour for the pattern) for the most part it won’t be that way.
Creating new patterns requires skill of a Vector editing program. Luckily for you – a tutorial was written to teach the newcomers how (not to use the vector program, but rather create their own patterns). Visit the Sims 2 Wiki and start reading if you’re interested.
Delphy’s Pattern Packer
Source: ModTheSims
Copyright: DelphyThe Pattern Packager program allows you to add new Patterns (aka items that appear in Create a Style) to your Sims 3 game. Each Pattern can have up to 4 recolourable “palettes”, which are defined on the Red, Green, Blue and Alpha channels of the source image.
Please read the tutorial located here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?…Custom_Patterns
Please note! It is NOT possible to just download any old seamless pattern from the net and shove it in game. It WILL look bad and not work properly! You have been warned, and if I get any questions saying “I downloaded a pattern online and tried it and….” then I will find you and eat your pasta.
Oh, and before I forget, download new custom patterns available at Mod The Sims, courtesy of HystericalParoxysm
Well, I’ll just have to let other people create new patterns and hope they pull through. 🙂
Everyone is just on the ball this time around except for EA who look like people on the BBS are about to start lynching them if they don’t patch the bugs soon. When the fur starts to fly be sure to duck under a table Jud.
I’ll have to give this a try tomorrow since I managed to miss this program today. Doesn’t look too hard to do unless you make it exceedingly difficult on yourself from the start by choosing a complicated pattern that needs all 4 channels. Which of course I can never do anything the easy way.
WOW… this is incredible 🙂 I just put HP’s patterns in my game, and they work beautifully.
I’m totally blown away that they got this out so fast. There were a LOT of naysayers over on the EA boards who said it couldn’t be done, and here it is Day 2, and it’s done 😀 I always had faith they’d do it, but I expected to wait six months :O
And now, off to read that tutorial and dig out my vector apps 😀
ALL THE STORE CONTENT HAS JUST BEEN LEAKED! Just something for the people who want to protest EA…
old news kalan 😉 Was available two days ago.
And back on topic, that tut of HP’s was very helpful, and I managed to get the SECOND pattern upload on MTS2 😀 http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=343324&goto=newpost&posted=1#post2589523
So yeah, it’s very doable. I used her method, but really there are other alternatives than using a vector program — you just have to separate your bitmap into four channels, and there are lots of approaches to doing that. For a two-color image like I used, “invert” does the trick 😉
I may attempt it this weekend when I have some time 🙂
