UPDATE: This post can be ignored, just received word from MaxoidHydra that it’s still official there will be no installation limit or SecuROM for the game – I suppose this was only for the hands-on event.
What is going on here…We get the news that EA has decided to not use SecuROM along with the 3 (or 5) rule activation limit on The Sims 3. However, reports are coming in from The Sims 3 London/Manchester Hands-On Event that some of the attendees were not able to play the game – they were encountering installation limit errors!
Shelly (Ultramon05 from The Sims 3 UK forum) posted this following message:
Hi everyone. I’ve been, played, had a mini tantrum and returned home and my gosh was it fun! It’s a shame everyone couldn’t have experienced it.
We did have some troubles at the start as the game wasn’t for installing (the code can only be used on 3 computers, not 5 as Michael from EA explained to us) so we had to wait an extra 20 minutes till we actually got on.
But trust me, the wait IS worth it!
If anyone wants to ask me anything, fire away. I’m free all night.
Michael only had 3 CD’s of The Sims 3 available, thinking that he’d be safe to install the game as he believed it to of had 5 install limits. Turns out, some folks were not able to play after making the trip as they ran out of time trying to get the remaining activation codes!
I thought we ditched the whole idea of having activation limits, EA/Maxis? What gives?!?
I’ll try to uncover more information about this problem, so stay tuned.
