Just found out this morning that the intro video of The Sims 3 I posted was from a leaked copy of The Sims 3… That’s right, The Sims 3 has been leaked on the trackers 3 weeks before the game’s release date! What the hell…This is sad guys 🙁 We can’t let this happen – I don’t want it to happen and neither should any of you. EA/Maxis were kind enough to remove SecuROM from the CD, so at least have some respect for them. Now, I know even with SecuROM it’d still be pirated early…but still it’s going to give them a reason to want to use it again!
Don’t go out and search for this illegal copy – even if you are planning on purchasing it. It’s not that much longer of a wait. Please consider playing another game – or even spend some time away from the computer.
In the meantime, I’m going to have to watch the news I post…Any screens, movies, or information from the leaked copy will not be posted – don’t bother sending in a link either. It’s going to be increasingly difficult from now to figure out what news is valid…so there may be times I do post them by mistake. In that case, just shoot me a message and I’ll have it removed.
Until then, please stay calm and wait for the game – we don’t need to raise the download number higher than what it already is.
OMG! Are you serious? I just can’t believe it! This his horrible… first was the site, now the game…
is that true?? this is a good news! sorry, i no mean offensive, but in my country they sell the games (any platform, any consoles, even for PC except PS3) in the pirated version, and no one sells the legal copies.. should i get the pirated one? 🙁
In your case, if you’re able to get mail delivered to your home, it’d be best to order a copy online from a trusted site that will ship to your area.
Hey that’s a new record isn’t it? Spore was a week but this….
it just shows how badly people want the game. I hate to be rude, but it does sound tempting. but for all i know it could contain a virus so I wont!
It’s such a shame ! Hundreds of people have been working so hard on this game, and some pirates, with no respect for their work screw up the whole thing even before the game is released !
I hope they’re gonna get caught, cause it’s total disrespect for people hard work and dedication.
I am so sorry but I already pre-ordered the game and payed for it so I feel like I am allowed to download this and try it out while my copy arrives and then delete it.
I’m going to download it – play it for 2 weeks and then go buy the real version. It’s like a demo.
Yes, I download it, play and June 2nd buy it 🙂
I have it preordered and I’m glad for that, besides I only have 2 weeks to get my site ready for The Sims 3. I hope those who downloaded this end up buying.
Also, how do these get leaked so early? Time for employee checks?
Not surprising. I’m guessing they got it from one of the copies they sent out for play trails and it had SecuRom on it. Which as we all know works wonders as far as security goes. No matter what they do there’s still going to be piracy so even being nice and removing SecuRom doesn’t mean much. There’s still going to be people who are just going to pirate the game regardless. At least we might get a kill for the annoyances on release out of these depending on get’s a copy of it.
I’d like to have a look at the file structure but other than that I can wait another two weeks since I’m right in the middle of Saints Row 2 so at least that’s something to kill the time until my preorder ships.
For the next two weeks I will be hoping and praying that each and every individual who downloads the pirated game gets a trojan – a really nasty one at that. That includes all of you above, even those who are buying the game. You have no idea how hard the employees for game studios work. Many of them work upwards of 100 hours a week to make great games what they are. So I sincerely hope that all of you get a virus so nasty that it corrupts your entire hard drive. You’d deserve it, to be sure.
How hav ethe pirets get the game?
I am not gonna download it… I wil wait to I can buy it!!
Well, this will always happen to the videogame industry, they still like to keep the prices high and there are tons of people who cannot afford this or a computer (or even a PS3, which by the way isn’t so good).
Anyhow, I like the idea of playing the game “first-handed” it’s actually good they have made this possible, I was thinking of buying it anyway, so they’ll still get my money, but don’t expect most of the people who are downloading this to buy the original.
Why not think someone from EA has something to do with the game leak? The possibility is very high actually!
I agree with J….I figured, this close to the release date and with such high tension that someone may have sent out ONE “pirated” copy.
Maybe it’s a way to support SecuRom by saying how easy it is to pirate and that it makes it safer for all of us players and those who don’t know what pirated games may contain viruses or is illegal
Or maybe it’s to get more videos, pictures and info out about how amazing it is instead of people wondering if they got bugs out and stuff, so people see the stuff and go: dang if its from a pirated version then that’s the final product and not a demo of an unfinished game! YES!
That’s what I thought when I saw “THE SIMS 3 HAS BEEN LEAKED”….do I think too much?
I highly doubt that EA (who is hurting financially like the rest of the world right now) would leak a copy of a game that they expect to sell million of copies of and shoot their stocks back up. More likely someone in the manufacturing process stole a copy and leaked it. I’m sorry but using the justification that “your still buying the game” as an excuse to pirate the game is horrible. You are still supporting the pirates by doing this. And in the process probably causing EA to resort to more extreme DRM measures when they’ve been so kind about it when it came to The Sims. Think about everyone on the sims team who put all their love and effort into making this game for us and think about how much this is probably hurting them. And if you still choose to pirate the game after that then don’t bother to call yourself a sims fan anymore.
It was probably leaked at the disk manufacturing plant. Doesn’t matter. I just can’t believe people are trying to justify their desire to play a leaked copy. At the end of the day you’re condoning theft. Have some ethics.
I won’t download the pirated copy. I want an authentic legal copy of my Sims games. I’ve waited this long I can wait two more weeks.
That’s the point, I see it as…..why ruin it for myself by just downloading a stupid pirated copy (which may have a virus) rather than have the entire box with stuff in it (i got the collector’s edition) and begin right from the start there?
and about EA leaking it, other companies have done stuff like that too, that’s why I thought about it, but your point does make sense.
Plus, you wont benifit from the online experience and the downloads for the game, since you dont have a serial.
I’ll be waiting two more weeks. I couldn’t just load up The Sims 3 like this. It’s a whole ritual to me to finally get to play it. It’s curious how candid/calloused people are being about just snatching it up so fast. It’s more than just a game I want to load and start plugging into for me.
Sorry tracy I wasn’t picking on you about what you said. I just wanted people to know that EA is probably in no way responsible for this. I agree with you about having a copy in hand. I think the wait is what makes it fun. We’ll be really enjoying it two weeks from now while those who pirate it will get none of that joy and expectation. The magic will be gone for them.
So what if it was leaked, you should have known better, it always happens and it always will. If not before the game release date, it happens after. It is a reality.
SecuRom is nothing but spyware on your PC, I don’t trust it, never will. All of those forms of “keeping you safe”, most of them are giving your information out to anyone who wants it and you don’t even know about it.
The Sims is the best-selling franchise, I doubt they’re not going to sell millions just this year. The Sims 3 offers a lot to the player, the migration from The Sims 2 will be dramatic, since you’re no longer confined to a single house. That factor itself is the core of the game and probably what will make the game sell so much. Just wait till it comes out…
Many people who pirate do it because they cannot afford to buy what they are pirating. Which is why lately more and more people are pirating with the economy being in the shitter.
Pirates are not “evil” and are not conspiring against game developers to ruin their life and steal their money. I will admit that I myself have pirated things that are way out of my price range, but I also very often BUY my games. Right now we are close to being evicted and losing our power as we don’t have the money to pay our bills or even survive, but as I pre-ordered TS3 back in January I am covered and will not be pirating any leak for it. I know many pirates who pirate simply to try something before they go spending their VERY hard-earned cash on it. If they like it, they pay for it – if they don’t, they remove it from their computer and that is that.
I for one am tired of hearing about how evil pirates are or how hard the developers work. Yes, they do work hard, but you want to know who also works hard? My father, who gets up every morning to do a job that could very well kill him. And still my father, who has rheumatoid arthritis and hemorrhoids, two things we do not have the money to treat, and is down for days and sometimes weeks because he is in such excruciating pain from working that he cannot even WALK. And yet the people he does work for still take weeks and months to pay us so we can survive in a world that is so much about money that it’s disgusting. But I think we can all agree life is not fair, and it never will be.
Just my opinion.
SecuRom has nothing to do with stopping pirates… it doesn’t work… it’s a tool to keep the paying customers from trading it in… that’s where only the shop doing the trading gets any money.
Playing the game now and then buying it in 2 weeks doesn’t hurt EA or anyone. They got what they wanted – your money. What more could they ask for? In fact, some might play the leaked version out of curiosity and like it enough to go buy the real thing when they weren’t planning on it.
So before you start saying mean things to the “evil” pirates (I’m looking at you Jenn) – think about the end result… if the pirate buys the game, no harm done.
Hard economic times are no excuse for theft. Of any kind. There are a lot of things I would love to have, including digital goods like software, but I’m not going to steal or pirate. I’ll work hard and save my money. I’ll prioritize and spend what I do have on the important things. I have time, I can wait for a toy if I have to. Computer games are luxuries, they’re not essential to human happiness and survival. They’re not worth compromising personal ethics for.
Just my opinion.
I won’t lie, I may play Sims like crazy, but I never thought twice about SecuRom. Now I know how bad it is, and I really appreciate EA for taking it off for us. I just wish people understood that by downloading this pirated copy, even if you are just one person, that it’ll affect us all and not in a good way.
I just don’t see what the purpose is of downloading a pirated copy. It’s not the same, the excitement of opening the box, having it in your hands not knowing everything that small disc has in store….
Rawr…..it’s just mind blowing. I found the site. How could that many people just keep downloading it? People can be so selfish…
@ eh
It is a true reality, money makes people bad, cruel, cold and less human.
To help you with your point of view, for example, my mother’s a nurse in E.R. and I’m not talking about the sitcom… She tells me all kinds of stories of all kind of people, some even die before they can be treated. It’s harsh and true.
Now game developers only bring us something to keep our minds entertained while we forget about the world…
(Beware, it is not a competition between jobs, but the reality around it)
After reading more and more articles on this…It turns out that it pretty much has to be a beta copy that was ripped from someone who had access to review or demo the game. The disks sent out for the demo and reviewers were protected by SecuROM – while the retail discs that are shipped to stores are not. Now the problem lies…who let it slip? If it was a review site, it’s not only important for EA to find out – it’s important to all of the game manufactures who publish PC games…
Maybe if people didn’t pirate games and cause all this stealing, then the games wouldn’t have to cost so much because there’d be no loss.
I do blame pirates for the high cost of the games – thats why CDs and DVDs are so expensive…..pirates steal and so the companies aren’t making money so they are forced to raise their prices to make up for their losses…..
I would pay for a legal copy if it meant that the company gets the money directly and people keep their jobs and keep giving me amazing games I love.
I am soo fustrated at people for downloading this, not only is it proving that the people who download it have no respect for the people who have made this game what so ever. I can not belive that people are downloading it when they have already pre-ordered it just as a “demo”, c’mon people, this is sick.. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT.. You may also be at risk of viruses, DONT BE A FOOL TO PIRACEY.
There is still DRM with The Sims 3 because you wil need that EA Download program for updates and that thing has DRM so EA/Maxis lied
While technically that is true…We won’t know for sure until we get the actual disc. What I was told from the Maxoids is that even the EADM wouldn’t contain SecuROM, which leads me to believe that EADM is packed and installed within the game. So those who get it with the game are SecuROM free – but those who previously have it or downloaded it from the official site has the one with SecuROM embedded with it.
What the crap?
*sigh*
Piracy is one female dog.
I also think that someone leaked the website on purpose as well. *sigh*
The website was probably up for testing. To see how it works in the wild. Not a leak.
I hope so, TheSidDog.
I hope people make the decision to keep busy with other hobbies until June 2. It’s only two weeks folks, don’t be tempted into doing something illegal.
It is only illegal in some countries though, we’re not all part of the U.S. of A.
…gladly!
😉
Educate me, in what countries software piracy would be legal?
And this barely a few days after EA saying that’s it’s treating pirated copies as demos?
And it just happens that the official site, which included an access to the Riverview page, then Exchange, then TS3 Store was leaked? So you could appreciate what would you gain by buying a legit copy?
Man, this almost stinking like marketing. Almost. 🙂
piracy is legal in the Netherlands as long as you don’t upload and as I recall is completley legal in Sweden not everybody lives in America
There are international treaties governing copyright… would be impossible for any one country to protect its copyrights if that weren’t the case.
And Sweden is where The Pirate Bay, the biggest torrent site, was put on trial and the folks who run it convicted and heavily fined. That’s a great example of a country where piracy isn’t just illegal, it’s being aggressively prosecuted.
A lot of folks seem to think that piracy is legal in the US, as long as you don’t download. False. General copyright law forbids you from playing a game you knowingly obtained illegally.
There are some countries where the government doesn’t prosecute pirates and other copyright violators. That doesn’t mean it’s legal.
Can’t EA take legal action on this? If they know what torrent sites are offering it for download can’t they take legal action on that?
Too many comments for me to read lol but yea! Can’t EA do something about thses robers?!?! Boo the hackers! I’mm wait, even though i’m about to jump out of my skin for the game, i respect EA and wait! 😀
EA can do nothing, they have no control of it. Most people who have already downloaded it are enjoying the game and EA or any other party simply can’t do a thing. I’ve been reading and I don’t think it is the beta version of the game out there…
Most countries have some sort of global agreement, but they really do not control what’s going on inside your computer. If possible, that would be invasion of privacy. It differs from country to country.
How do you use the cheat codes in the sims 3? I tried CTRL SHIFT C but nothing happens. D:
The comment above is a good example of what we’re all discussing here, he he.
Long live the king.
I’m serious though. I tried CTRL SHIFT C but nothing happens? I did it again once i started playing it over and it worked ONCE but then it didn’t work I dunno what I’m doing wrong.
I’m a helpful guy – no really, I am. But in your case – I can’t do anything for you, I don’t have the game to try it myself.
Bob Bishop, I sincerely hope you get a trojan, the worst kind possible. I’d love to see you come back here whining about your hard drive failure. That’d make my day.
I’m still definetly buying the game no need to be rude to me I was not rude to you. So I downloaded the game? Big deal it’s not my fault it was leaked.
I also think there’s no need for those kind of comments, it just shows how shallow and selfish one can be. The game is leaked, deal with it.
@ Bob
I don’t know if it has changed, but I’m positively sure I’ve read and heard from the reviews and people that have played the game, that the cheat input is the same. Just try it again or restart the game…
Hello 🙂 I’m not sure where I’d stand in this issue. You see, if you went to the sites they all say if you enjoy it- buy it. Sure that doesn’t justify the fact they’re thefting my favorite game 🙂 But I think it is a step in the right direction, most of those other sites usually are like “screw it, screw the world…grrr, I hate corporations” :p I just called them hippies if you missed that. I also have friends that have downloaded it and are playing it as I type. I will NOT download it just because I’ve been waiting a year and a few months I can wait two more weeks. If I were to download it, it would only be for the 2 weeks. I have preordered it and everything. But, I think I differ from the grim thoughts of grr I hate you pirates go die, or we wish trojans on youuuu.
Half the people that are pirating, are just too excited to contain themselves and are buying the game. The other half are gamers who are just curious what all the fuss is about. It’s normal at the state we’re in at in the economy that we’d be cautious with what we pay for. I can’t say I hate the pirates, because I don’t, but I wouldn’t pirate the game myself. I know I want it, Im getting it no matter what, and I can be patient when I want to :p
One thing I really love : “It’s ok downloading the game, after all EA has lots of money”.
So if your neighbourg is richer than you, you’re just gonna steal his car ? It’s ok, he’s rich, he can buy another one ?
Stealing is stealing.
And beware : you’re always richer than someone. Don’t get pissed off if they steal from you.
Hello 🙂 I’m not sure where I stand in the issue either. I don’t particually know if someone that I’ve met before is playing the pirated version yet, but i believe it’s wrong and just sad; especially how people can lie to themselfs and say it’s a demo when really it’s not. But then I would like to see how it is. I’ve been waiting a year and a couple of months and watched the The Sims 3 get delayed. I think i can wait 2 weeks. People if I could (note I’m a impatiant person) wait you can too. So I think that I’m saying NO to pirated copies.
So all I can say is…
that all piraters out there need to get a life and now EA/Maxis will put secROM back on and I’ll have a stuffed laptop and so I’ll only be able to use it on my friends computer, so now I have to buy a PC. Why can’t you piraters go “pirate” a life. You’re sad discrasful people and you should be ashamed, all that hard work that people go through for you piraters to just steal TS3. And yes you’re a crimanal because it’s stealling and anyone you downloads it are crimanals too as thats contributing to the thieft.
Now on another note, keep up the good work guys!
Elissa 🙂
I will not download it
I live in Egypt, and here I have to wait alot longer than 2 weeks to get it
but I’ll wait,coz I’m a true sim fan and I will support 🙂
this makes me so made i have preorderd the colletors edition (yaz) and i cant wait for the exspation paks but if everyone gets this pirate opy ea and the sims c will stop making games
“I’m still definetly buying the game no need to be rude to me I was not rude to you. So I downloaded the game? Big deal it’s not my fault it was leaked.”
— Bob Bishop.
YES IT NOT YOUR FAULT BUT YOU DONT HAVE TO GO AND DOWNLOAD IT NOW DO YOU! GOD PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!! And i agree with Jenn i hope your computer dies.
Connor I agree with you. They are still breaking the law.
No I don’t have to download it but I did. I don’t see the big deal everyone is making on this. Do you honestly think people still won’t pirate the game AFTER it’s released? It’s always going to happen and you just gotta deal with it and move on. Yes it’s a shame it was leaked because they could lose a lot of profit from it but it would have happened either way.
You guys really need to calm down. I dont care how ‘cool’ you people wishing death on others computers think you are, but you guys sound like big buttholes. I dont care if you get mad at me just leave it alone. They downloaded it, get over it. It’s there choice not yours. And I think we’ve established at this point that the game isn’t virus filled. Has anyone complained of any complications at all? I wanna download this just to prove to you all that its a safe download. Your just giving yourself a reason to feel better because you did the ‘right thing’. Read your post before you post it. Because what your saying is really rude. Some of you need to get a life, its a GAME.
Bob Bishop, Obviously you have no clue what you are talking about. You HAVENT download it AFTER the release date have you, you downloaded it BEFORE witch makes it a PIRATE and ILLEGAL. And that Bob Bishop is why we are making a “big deal” out of it. And how dare you tell me to “deal with it and move on.” No I Will Not “Deal With It”. ITS WRONG. You Can Deal With That .
Rockermonkey999 you have a right to a opinion, but i find YOU a bit rude telling Sim fans to get a life. And that whole message was pointed at me, you couldn’t make it more obvious.. I do read my posts before i send them and they are not rude, there just saying what all of us are thinking, besides you and all the other people who are deciding to break the law for some reason or another like trying to prove that the game has no viruses in, that is the worst excuse ever. But i dont care what you do in your time, But when your robbing EA thats a bit to far over the line. Just think about it.
^I understand its illegal, but you shouldnt attack a person you dont know. It was leaked, not by him. Im not telling you not to post your opinion. But you can’t admit that you were wrong when you said and I quote since you want to quote me:
“YES IT NOT YOUR FAULT BUT YOU DONT HAVE TO GO AND DOWNLOAD IT NOW DO YOU! GOD PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!! And i agree with Jenn i hope your computer dies.”
Thats not rude? not at all, right? You dont know him/her how can s/he make you sick, btw thats cyber bullying ;]. Im not here to start a fight I never said I downloaded it, did I? I don’t care whats right and whats wrong, telling someone you wish their computer dies is wrong too. Also, btw no matter what it’s illegal and a pirate…not just before the release date 🙂 And you dont know where this person lives. Remember, not everyone lives near you and sometimes it’s not so illegal ;].
Just read your post 🙂 Sorry if I was offending you, it just makes me mad to see people gang up on someone :] but it was fired directly to you, more towards the entire simming community. btw, Im a simming addict. Nothing wrong with that. But it’s just a game that got leaked is what Im saying theres no need to try and stop people from downloading it, they will anyway. Im not ticked off by it, it happens. I do love the fans though 🙂 Also I DID NOT download it as I’ve posted many times. If I would have I wouldn’t make an excuse. Im buying it with my own money because I want to have all the features available. But if I was gonna download it and delete it in 2 weeks I’d tell you all “Hello, Im rockermonkey and Im downloading TS3 because Im bored and want to play it after waiting a year” BUT I am not, and dont like being accused of so :ppp :))) (Not offence, just two different opinions on the situation :))
I do not think were in this forum to talk about how i am apparently “Cyber-Bullying” somebody, and i completly disagree with that. Im just here to state its wrong to download something that is pirated, but obviously other people disagree, and how the heck is that an insut “i hope your computer dies”? I do have a right to an opinion and so do you im not saying you dont, and i was just tellin Bob that its still wrong to download it before i didnt say it won’t be a pirate afterwards, and yes you did say you are only going to/ wanted to download it to prove people wrong
— I wanna download this just to prove to you all that its a safe download.
well do the right thing and stop trying to make me look like a bad guy coz yes i am doin the “right thing”. Dont download it . 😛
Ok i am sorry if you thought i was ganging up on soeone that is not my intention ! 🙂 the last thing i want to do is make enimies..
If you wanna download it go ahead its your choice and not mine :P:):)
I’m sorry that you feel its wrong to do this but what more can you do about it? I’m trying my best not to be EXTREMELY rude to you which says a lot. I downloaded it, I’m going to buy it once it comes out because I’m still a fan of the sims. What I meant by my last post is that most people won’t even buy the game once it is released but they’ll download it illegally just like others did BEFORE it’s released. They would have lost revenue either way because those “pirates” would just pirate it anyway if its leaked or not it changes nothing people like you will continue to buy it even if its leaked. There’s no big deal here.
If i download it just to try it out, and I AM going to buy the Collectors Edition already but if i download it, is there anyway i can delete it off my PC forever and then install my bought version?! 😀
i posted a while ago, and although I don’t agree with all the “rawr!!! death to your computers” and “you’re bullying me!”…I do have something to say against the pirating:
the effort of saying: don’t do it : might be affective. It’s like buying counterfeit purses in China Town, leaking a DVD, stealing clothes in a dressing room…..it can all be done and especially now during the recession and it doesn’t make it right.
every download supports EA wanting to put SecuRom on every disk, they lose money, people who work for them lose their jobs because EA can’t pay them, our games become more expensive because they don’t make money, and we’ll end up Sim-less.
I’ve been dying to play a demo and I’ve asked every person and googled every possibility….LEGAL possibility, but I won’t ruin the Sims for myself or anyone else by participating with the illegal downloading.
I say don’t download a pirated copy. Just because you can and you play the same 2 weeks early doesnt mean it’s right and it’ll have no consequences. Yeah, maybe there’s no viruses with the download but it will affect us later because EA needs to make money if they plan on providing us with more games and things that won’t cost us more than what they do now.
I say please don’t download, please don’t pirate the games. Eventually the games will end up being $80-$100, more EA people lose their jobs, the games get worse and less come out a year because so many people are pirating and downloading illegal copies.
@Tracy
You make a very good point, but i am still ganna by it so its not like i am going to do anything bad, i can’t make others buy it but i can make myself buy it, and i will! I am going to buy the Collectors Edition, i just want to download the leaked one for like a test! But i will be giving back everything when i go to Gamestop and play $70 for it! 😀 I am no bad Simmer!!
Try not to judge too quickly. There are many who use the pirated versions as demos to see if they like a game, then buy it. The Sims 3 in particular is going to be popular in this way as EA don’t release demos of Sims games.
What I would say is download it if the inclination takes you, but if you like it then BUY IT as soon as it comes out.
If you do download it remember to run a thorough virus/spyware scanner over it before installing/running anything.
Just think of it as TRY BEFORE YOU BUY and everyone is a winner!
EA doesn’t see it as “buy before you buy” unless they planned the leak…..so it still looks like hundreds of possible sold copies gone because of a leak.
It doesn’t compare to the millions that will be sold, I know that….I just don’t think it’s justifying either way. That’s me, that’s why I won’t be downloading it, and I wanted to put my two cents in.
I just hope all those downloads don’t come back to bite us in the ass later on with other future Sim stuff.
**try before you buy. my bad. im watching “Made of Honor” and didn’t bother to proof read this time.
The only difference between you guys buying it June 2nd and me buying it June 2nd is I get to play it 2 weeks early and you don’t. It’s win-win for me AND EA.
@ Connor
All we’re asking is that you calm down. We’re not trying to be enemies or cause trouble. But learn to turn off the caps lock button.
@ Rockermonkey999
Quite a good way to handle the situation. And it’s completely true. People do download it, but it’s not the decision of those around them. We’re humans and do what we do. We’re a greedy bunch of monsters (Well, some of us at least…). Anyway, some can’t wait, some can. It’s a matter of will strength and personal ethics/morality. If they download something, meh. Their problem if the FBI or government cops of their country storm their house, not mine.
All in all, make your point, don’t badmouth others to make it, and learn to turn off Caps Lock 😀
People!!! I hope you all know this is NOT a “sold” game! It does NOt have all the features in it!! It has maybe half of it and it is very buggy! So if you download it beware that you are not getting the full game!! I do concider this a “try before you buy” kinda thing but only for the people who WILL buy it when it comes out, i am one of them! I have not downloaded it yet but i warn you, it IS NOT a full version of the game! It has many bugs and frezzings, and be carefull! It COULD give you a virus! So if you want to download it, run a very thorough virus/spyware scanner over it before installing/running anything!! 😀
Kinda sad people ruin this for everyone… but I’m at the point where i don’t care if I have to update online every few days to keep these assholes away from one of my favorite game.
When we were all growing up… if you were a little prick you wern’t allowed to play. All us honest players should deal with the online activation and let these buggers never see the game.
besides…. 60.00 for a game isn’t that much… especially for the Sims 3… I understand some people have problems paying for expansions.
Plus I’m pretty sure this copy is low quality… ;]
What do some people mean by the website? Is there a leaked website?
The game has been leaked though, I didn’t get it, it was tempting but I realised it was wrong. Curse you anyone who get’s it. But if you do, tell me some of the features please…
Just Joking
To the people upset that people are playing the game before you are – yes it’s a slap in the face even though you’re doing the right thing (try before you buy is THE WRONG THING by the way). But it’s dumb to wish a virus on pirates, insult them, or plead for them to repent. Don’t take it so personally! However emotional you are, most people won’t change their behaviour because of somebody’s passionate plea on some internet site.
Also, don’t latch on to hopes that ‘the real game will be better’ and ‘people who played the leak are playing the BAD version, EA will fix it!’. They could be telling the truth.
Have realistic expectations (i.e. low ones!) and you’re guaranteed to avoid disappointment. As long as you’re happy with the end product, it doesn’t matter what other people think.
@ Ruben
I think the leaked website refers to a security breach in EA’s downloading service. There are unconfirmed reports that this was how the game was leaked in the first place. It explains SecuROM and the Digital Download EULA in the setup.
Hey Bob,
You say you’ve downloaded it, can you please e-mail me and tell me all whats good and bad about it please 🙂 e-mail me on my brothers e-mail 🙂
connor-hughes@hotmail.co.uk thanks 😉
Guys!
Seriously… calm down.
I’m sorry, but I can’t help but laugh a bit at the people who take this so personally.
The bottom line is – the game would have gotten pirated anyway, and it will happen to The Sims 4 as well. This isn’t a question of morality or ‘doing a service to the community’. The groups who pirate these games are organized and pirate because they take pride in leaking games faster than any other group. Not because they care how many people download it.
So in the end, whether or not you download it doesn’t matter, but I am definately of the opinion that if you download it, buy it on release! I certainly will be buying the special edition myself.
I would also like to add a thing or two about DRM;
EA’s learned their lesson. They’re not going to add DRM to a game anymore. At least not to any game produced by Maxis. In the end, it doesn’t matter, because it *will* be pirated anyway, more than likely before the releasedate!
The bottom line is, piracy is here to stay. It won’t go away whether you download or not, but don’t be a jerk – PAY for a copy once it’s out. Maxis and EA deserves it.
Also, let’s not forget that the real jerks here are the ones working at the CD copying factories distributing illegal DVD copies to pirategroups.
no i don’t agree with those who claim that they will “buy” it after they have it downloaded already on their PCs, i Doubt that ,really immature .we have been waiting two years for this game so two weeks is like nothing in a life time. I’M SURE WHEN YOU WILL PLAY THE PIRATED COPY IT WONT BE AS SATISFIYING AS THE ORIGINAL ONE. just imagine EA stopping this franchise because of that ! they will be no sims anymore…
Downladed it. Will buy it the 4 Jun.
Sad to say that Securom is here guys :/ EA is lyers ^_^
Curious about where you got the information that they didn’t use SecuROM, Judhudson. I want to believe you, but a commenter contradicts you (says it’s on the downloaded version) and I’d just like to have a source reference to put my mind at ease. 🙂
Chakib: Some people who say they pirate and will buy may have preorders pending, but I agree it is illegal to download the pirated copy even if you do have a preorder. Preorder does not equal ownership and would never stand up in court.
I’m not going to download ahead of time, myself, but once a player has the authentic game in their hands (bought and paid for), I say download as many backups as you want. (Backups of an owned item is allowed for under the law, though not if that item transfers out of the owner’s possession.)
This is my reason on why it’s possible that the leak is a beta: http://www.simprograms.com/ea-still-planning-on-including-35-activation-limit-with-the-sims-3/
Basically, during the UK event that 40 Simmers were attending, EA reps were having a problem with their Sims 3 discs – they were protected with SecuROM and only brought 2 – 3 CD’s to each location (Manchester and London). Anyhow, they thought that each CD allowed up to 5 activations…Not the case, only 3. So it left a number of Simmers upsets with delays and no chances to play. When I contacted Hydra for further information, it appears that demo cd’s and review copies were protected with SecuROM to prevent the game being leaked to the public. Guess it wasn’t protected enough, as some smart reviewer must of gotten a copy and leaked it.
Of course, I don’t have anything to back up my claim 100% – just this information from a Maxoid. We won’t know whether the version is leaked until the Game Version from the actual retail copy is discovered.
JudHudson, I checked my version and the launcher says the gameversion is 1.0.615.00107. In other words, not a beta and certainly not an alpha.
Anything above 1.0 is golden.
@océane
“One thing I really love : “It’s ok downloading the game, after all EA has lots of money”.
So if your neighbourg is richer than you, you’re just gonna steal his car ? It’s ok, he’s rich, he can buy another one ?
Stealing is stealing.
And beware : you’re always richer than someone. Don’t get pissed off if they steal from you.”
If you steal your neigbhour car he/she would lose the car. Could you, please, tell us what loses EA from a leaked copy? downloading a COPY maybe it’s not the right decision but it’s not what you’re talking about. Remember that a downloaded copy is not a lost sale.
Hey everyone ie just read all the comments
maybe skiped a few
Ok so im getting the real version legaly and im not geting the leak but im confused where did this leak come from?
I think we should be focusing on that and maybe towards a brigher note what charecters have you planed??

This whole chat about who does and who doesn’t is getting boring and pointless. I found this around the web…
The Sims 3 Live – http://www.justin.tv/jacobian360
oh my god….whaaaaaat….is it really live? that’s a little upsetting…
i mean..it looks amazing i can’t wait to play my sims..but i mean..omg…..im shocked…..
goodness, all he’s doin is makin a black/white house…….hes not even explorin other stuff……man…..
I hope that because the game is leaked EA might release the game early.
Anyone else think this might happen or hopes it might happen?
@ Mickisme : Not likely. Since the game went gold, it’s been in production. And since it’s a worldwide launch they need all the time they can get to produce as many copies as possible. It’d be nice though!
At all the pirates and those who agree with them:
STEALING IS STEALING NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT. BUYING IT LATER DOES NOT JUSTIFY STEALING IT NOW!
Looking at it otherwise would be a** backwards, and you all know it.
its a reviewers copy…the one played by jacobian on justin.tv …its pretty awesome…
Well. I’m “acquiring” it as I type this. Will I buy it later? Nope. Am I too poor to afford it? Nope? Is it stealing? More than likely. But I see it like this. If I get it and play it and don’t like it, I’m out nothing more than the time it took to get it. If I do like it, I doubt I’ll play it longer than a month or so anyway so it would be a waste to spend money on. So the bottom line is,I’ll “acquire” it and do as I please.
Well… I for one download SOME games. I’m here to make some points. A) When you pirate you don’t really get the full game EX. Spore… What’s the point of playing a pirated Spore if your game can’t get the random creatures from the internet? B) Most people get it because they want to try it out and see if the game will actually WORK on their computers before buying that (should’ve done this with Empire: Total War). I was very disappointed when I bought the game (+$50) and when i played it i found out my processor wasn’t fast enough( by only .20 ghz) to play it fully. C) Like many people they usually end up buying the game later on, and for some (like me) delete the game because when I download a pirated game it seems to get more boring than the games i actually own. Those are my opinionated points. Pirates aren’t bad there’s just too many of them… Power to the Players xD!!!
Some people have downloaded it, and played it. Yes, it’s illegal, but it is true. Once the game is released, people will FLOOD torrent sites with The Sims 3 and a lot of people are going to download it, whether they wait until the release date or not.
Just shows EA how great an idea it was to halt the game 3-4 months so they can do more marketing. Yes, marketing. I for one booked time off so I could go out and buy the game Feb 20th, and come to find out 17 days before the original release date that it was going to be pushed back. I was not impressed, and neither were hundreds, if not thousands of other people.
Most people who downloaded it are going to go out and buy it anyway, just so they can have the FULL feel of the game and it’s privileges, downloads, etc. Yes, there are a few who will not go out and buy it, but oh well. The damage is done, folks.
If I knew how to pirate it, I would while waiting for my pre-ordered collector’s edition to arrive, because I’m getting ancy waiting. I was so disappointed when EA pushed back the release to build up the hype with tons of marketing so that they could sell more copies 4 months later than when they were supposed to release the game! There were tons of people who already pre-ordered the game expecting to get it in February and were sorely disappointed like I was! I’d love to get a taste for it before my paid-for copy arrives! However, I have no idea how to pirate stuff and am paranoid about getting a virus doing that.
i completely agree with Rockermonkey999, YES there are pirates out there and yes there are thousands of people around the world downloading it as we debate but i think you’ll find a large margin will also be the people who have already pre-ordered and are too excited to wait.. from what i hear this isn’t the full version and their a fool for missing out otherwise but i certainl don’t hate pirates and uploaders, they emancipate society today. if it were’nt for them we wouldnt see movies we’d never hear of in our country or watch anime thats fansubbed and will never appear on our screens. the same thing for the sims 3, bit coorperate game makers..i;m sure they can handle a few thousand compared to the countless millions that have already ordered their next game and then-some!!
My friend downloaded the pirated version and afterwards her computer shut down and its now broken. LOl. Be patient< <3 Its only a day now for Australia~! ;D
