TheSims3.com – Creator’s Camp update Week #10

BeyondSims BeyondSims Author

TheSims3.com has published information on The Sims 3 Creator’s Camp that was held back in January.  Each week, they will bring to us new creator profiles and share with us the items that they created.

This week marks Week #10 and it’s update is with machinima artists TheSidDog.  He’s work is so amazing EA decided to give this week to him (well, that’s not entirely true, but I’ve got to say something nice, he reads these posts! 😛 )  I do have to say that his character profile picture is actually one of the best realistic Sim’s I’ve seen so far from the game – and no, that’s not due to the reason above – it actually is!

TheSidDog’s Profile

The Sid Dog loves to create characters and sets with The Sims 3 that can be used in his machinima. During the Content Creators Camp The Sid Dog create movies using captured footage from the game which he edited with the Create a Movie Tool.

His favorite piece of machinima was a movie titled “Creepy the Clown”.  He started it off as a practice piece so that he could get used to the new tools, but ended up enjoying it the most.

When asked about his favorite experience from The Sims, The Sid Dog replied that coming to the Creator’s Camp to make machinima and meet other fans of the game was defiantly memorable.  Check out all of The Sid Dogs movies at TheSims3.com when the game launches in June.

Update – I can’t believe I didn’t realize this sooner.  It didn’t hit me until I was watching these videos (didn’t have enough time to watch them at work)…Pete’s (TheSidDog) avatar has a striking resemblance to the Eric Cartman real life drawing.  Just add an extra 150 pounds and give him the right color clothes and hat and boom!

Player Haters reveals two new pieces of information to me anyways. I thought they did away with the underwear category (unless they just merged it with something else) and I spotted an actual crossing sign and what looks to be a yield sign in the background (:45) which a nice touch over the generic ones from Sims 2. If I didn’t plan on spending the next month in the pool and yard (weather permitting) the waiting would be much worst. Although I suspect the next 32 days are going to be torture as is.

@Jud: Very true about the Cartman comment. I’m a South Park fan so I’ll definitely try to recreate them in my game. You know, kill Kenny and all that.

@ Thomas: When I played there was no separate underwear category. The underwear seen in the video were filed as pajamas. I played back in January, so things might be different. And yes, the town is full of nice effects such as the sign. The detail amazed me — the images and videos released so far don’t do it justice.

Hahaha…If you do, I hope to see it as one of your machinima videos! 😀

Well, I already have my first machinima planned, but you just gave me a great idea. It’ll be funny if I pull it off right.

Excellent. Man I’m so stoked for the game. I usually don’t play the actual games – mostly use them for testing purposes and try to help others solve their problems, but I think I’ll actually be one to play this one. I’ve got so many movie ideas for a change (okay, not that many, about 5) that I’m looking forward to creating. 1 is going to be epic if I can pull it off right 😀

I know what you mean, Jud. I mostly used The Sims 2 for machinima. I think I only had one Sim family die of old age since 2004 — that how rarely I played the game aspect of it. Sims 3 will be different. The seamless neighborhood and improved AI has me excited. Sims 2 was just Sims 1 in 3D — Sims 3 is a true evolution of the series.

@Kyle: Create, create, create, and share, share, share; that’s how you get invited to EA. It also helps to avoid making negative comments about the company and the Sims team. Constructively criticizing the negative aspects of their DRM is one thing, hurtful name calling and mob mentality is totally different. You see the latter on most forums. Fortunately SecuROM was dropped from Sims 3. Anyways, just create and share your Sims 3 content, and they’ll notice you. Have fun.

Hey, SidDog. I have a bit of a concern about machinima that maybe you can clear up since I keep getting conflicting information.

Are we being forced to use EA’s tool with it’s limits because from the sound of things it sounds as if your videos are never on your PC to begin with thus making it impossible to work with other programs. Do you know if there is that limitation or did they clear that up any at the camp?

Are the videos stored on the PC the game is installed to or are they automatically uploaded straight from the game to EA preventing them from being worked with in external programs?

  8. TheSidDog Reply

Thomas, videos are stored on the PC just as they were in Sims 2. There is no difference. The mashup tool is an addition, not a replacement, to Sims machinima as we’ve known it. Also, uploading clips to the website is optional.

The movies you see coming from the campers was created using the mashup tool, but I know we’ll be using our own programs once the game comes out.

That’s good to hear. I can understand them not allowing copyrighted material used in their tool and most likely not allowing said videos to be hosted by them, but it’s nice to have the option for those who are capable of hosting our own videos and own better more expensive software. There’s only so many videos you can watch with Simish In E Minor as a backing track.

    Thanks for clearing that up.
