UPDATE – 12/18/08 – The official Sims site revised the minimum specs to include more detail, so this post was updated to reflect those changes.
According to InfiniteSims, they just received word thru an EA email with the minimum system requirements for The Sims 3. Guess it is time for me to get off my butt and finally publish the System Requirements page for TS3! More than likely we will hear more information for the requirements closer to release, but here’s what we have so far:

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts will not perform adequately.
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.
Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn’t listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

I’m a little bit worried…
Is it fairly similar to the Spore system reguirements? (Can’t spell ^_^)
If it is then I’m OK but if it’s WAY more advanced than that then I’m DOOMED!
It’s asking a little more for TS3 than it did from Spore.
Memory needed for TS3 will either need 1 – 2 Gigs (minimum) to run while it only needed 512MB – 1GB (minimum) for Spore.
Video Cards are similar, and the processor requirements are roughly the same – with TS3 asking a little bit more from Vista users.
I was a bit concerned about the processor requirements but if they’re roughly the same as Spore then I should have no problem at all. If not I’ll just have to buy a new PC this year which is fine since I can always give this one to my uncle since he has my mother’s 5 year old PC since he’s not really computer savvy.
Guess I’ll find out come February.
Oh! Thanks! I think I should be Ok, my computer is pretty good… but it could be a teenie bit slow. Oh well, as long as I can still play it, then I’m fine!
Thanks for publishing this. I’m actually surprised they’re this low. But hey, I think it’ll be great if it runs decently at those specs. I run XP on my iMac, and was concerned that it wouldn’t be able to handle it (video card is an ATI X1600). I don’t need to worry now.
