True - Spore to use SecuROM*Appears to be 100% confirmed after all…*

We must stand up and stop this once and for all.  I am sick and tired of us supporters getting screwed while those who pirate games get off scott free.  Isn’t that what SecuROM is suppose to stop?  The pirates?  Because if so, it doesn’t appear to be doing its job.

What I am talking about is the fact that Spore might be using SecuROM.  This was brought up in a thread over at Gaming Steve on how Mass Effect for PC (published by EA) will require checks of your serial number every 10 days.  So for those who have no internet connection or lose their connection for 10 days, you are SOL and will have to go thru the horrible process of calling tech support…

Here is what secuROM does:

After the first activation, SecuROM requires that it re-check with the server within ten days (in case the CD Key has become public/warez’d and gets banned). Just so that the 10 day thing doesn’t become abrupt, SecuROM tries its first re-check with 5 days remaining in the 10 day window. If it can’t contact the server before the 10 days are up, nothing bad happens and the game still runs. After 10 days a re-check is required before the game can run./blockquote>
With the fact that Mass Effect will use SecuROM, it’s more than likely Spore will use it as well.  When one of the members contacted MaxiodCactus on this issue, they reported:

‘I can’t comment on SecuROM at the moment, but we’re aware of the concern, and will be sending out new information as it becomes available’.

As Spore is reported known as a game you can play offline, this is still up in the air on what is going to occur.  Hopefully Maxis will clear this up for us.
