Don Hopkins, known more as the guy who programmed The Sims Transmogrifier for The Sims, has released the source code to the original SimCity game. Now released under the GPL, it will be known as Micropolis due to the fact that the SimCity name had to be removed for copyright reasons.
If I had the knowledge, and the time, I would love to design a version of SimCity based on the satellite view from Google Maps. Instead of the graphics the game uses, why not add a realistic approach by using actual images of roads, houses, etc? I don’t know if it could be done, but I would have a blast if this idea could come to life! If you are a programmer, please make this happen!
