It only seems like the other day that I was writing a review for The Sims 4 Kids Room Stuff. Oh, wait… I was. Swiftly moving on… The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff promises to impress by offering new objects for Sims to enjoy in their gardens, new attire for both children and adults, and a new gameplay object which is pretty awesome to say the least!

Let’s dig in and check out The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff and see if it’s worth your money.

Create A Sim

Create A Sim offers a variety of clothing attire and hair styles for teens/adults/elders and children. It is a rather small collection of items, but that’s good in some respect as the focus of this back is on objects for the Backyard that your Sims can use an enjoy.

Male CAS Items

The content that does arrive in CAS is pleasant and I can see myself using it for my Sims for a variety of occasions, as it’s nothing themed (e.g. Spooky clothing from Spooky Stuff isn’t really suitable for use outside of the context of the pack).

Female CAS Items (one top shown in a variety of different styles).

One thing that I do find very weird with the new CAS content is that two of the hairstyles almost identical but one seems to be slightly darker when you select it, which is rather confusing. I’m not sure if there is something that I’m missing here, or if it’s a mistake and the same hairstyle has been implemented twice!

Stylised Rooms

Stylised Rooms are always one of my favourite things about new packs because I always find it difficult to design a room for new content that looks decent, thankfully these do that for me. Backyard Stuff comes with three stylised rooms designed to be placed outside.

These feature places for your Sims to sit down and relax, and also take advantage of the new gameplay object which allows you to slip and slide, but more of that one later.

The only downfall with the Stylised Rooms, because of how the game works, is that if your house has a foundation then the stylised rooms will be placed on a foundation too instead of flat on the ground, which is slightly frustrating if you’re trying to create the perfect Backyard for your Sims. But, to reiterate, that’s not because of the pack, it’s because of how Build Mode works when you place down rooms.

Overall, the new stylised rooms are great if you want to quickly use the content provided in the stuff pack.

Build / Buy Mode

There are dozens of new objects in The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff, as shown in the image below. These feature from chairs (Lazy Game Reviewer’s favourite), tables, decorative objects such as lanterns, rugs and pictures, and more.

Some of my new favourite items are the bird house, wind chimes, and wind mills. These are gorgeous decorations for your Sims’ gardens and I just love that the wind mills rotate as if there were a breeze in the game, and the wind chimes make a noise as they move. It’s small touches, but makes all the difference instead of having static objects.

New Gameplay Object

Now, the new gameplay object is a load of fun and is very similar to the waterslide which came with The Sims 3 Generations expansion pack.

Your Sims can now have family fun in the backyard and enjoy sliding down the waterslide together, trying out trick shots if they’re feeling optimistic, and even add soap to the water! This slide is accompanied by moodlets for your Sims. If they make a fool of themselves, they’ll get embarrassed. Or if they’re having fun, then they’ll be happier. My Sims decided to try a trick slide and fell over towards the end, hurting herself. Safe to say she was embarrassed.

This is a really quirky gameplay item and is nothing like we’ve had in The Sims 4 so far. It brings different age groups together in the game and allows them to socialise and have an absolute blast. I’m in LOVE with this object. It’s also hilarious when you add soap to the water, as Sims will walk about with bubbles on their bodies afterwards!

Anything else?

You finally have a use for the Backyard radio station that came with The Sims 4 Perfect Patio stuff!

Conclusion & Rating

The Sims 4 Backyard Stuff Pack offers a variety of new objects and attire for your Sims to enjoy, no matter what their age is. The clothing isn’t necessarily stuck to a theme, making it usable at anytime, and the vast majority of objects are well-made and are unique (such as the Windmill). The new gameplay object, albeit reminiscent of TS3 Generations, is a blast to play with and is my favourite thing about this pack.
