This may very well be my last post regarding pricing and The Sims 2/3 Store. We’ve known the fact that what they charge is ridiculous, but I suppose there still may be a few people out there who’ve yet to notice. Simmers News managed to grab some screens and pricing of the first items to be featured in the Sims 3 Store – and they don’t come cheap (have they ever?) Users are now able to purchase full sets as well as individual items – full sets may include up to 50 items for an estimated $20. Great deal huh? Especially when Stuff Packs cost that much and they contain what….125 pieces of new content or more?
- Tiki Set | 575 Sim Points | $5.75 —– 15 items
- Storybook Set | 1900 Sim Points | $19.00 —– 45 items
- Hewnsman Set | 2000 Sim Points | $20.00 —– 47 items
- Bayside Set | 1450 Sim Points | $14.50 —– 35 items

Well im using my free simpoints then maybe…maybe buying more :-/
I won’t be buying any furniture…Neighborhoods may be a possibility. Hope they have no plans to charge for tools
i might buy a few things…not tons but i may buy neighborhoods as they come out. I hope we still get SPs
I won’t say I’ll ever actually buy something or that i’ll never buy one thing…..but it’s always worth considering if the item looks amazingly cool, it’d look amazing in a house i have, and i can’t find it for free anywhere else.
I think this may actually be the limit for me. I am willing to pay an insane amount of money for stuff packs but there is a limit and this is it. I cannot afford to buy everything anymore. If EA can’t see that… I can’t and won’t support the Sims 3 Store like this.
I can see it happening that they add everything to the store now. No more stuff packs perhaps? Just store items. I really don’t like buying digital downloads, I’d rather have a boxed stuff pack I can collect at the same time.
I’ve played the game at the event last week and to be honest, there are barely any objects in the base game. I was really disappointed by that. And they added so many Sims 2 items in the Sims 3 store. So you are basically paying for items that you already payed for before.
I’m a really unhappy fan right now. If this is how they continue to work on their sequel, I think I may even stop buying and playing their games. And that’s coming from a fan who’s been in the Sims community from the very beginning. I have pretty much any Sim game. 🙁
Oh and I also think it’s plain ridiculous that (there is a possibility that) we have to pay for new neighborhoods in the future. And we can’t make our own. I really can’t relate to a game that is so closed to custom content creators.
It’s really like they are trying to make us fansites useless, because fans can now pretty much customize everything in the game and those things we cannot customize (complete new patterns) is something we’ll have to find out ourselves in order to give our members completely new items.
I’m really not for illegal downloading as I’ve always supported EA and their products but with the store and everything I’m not so sure anymore…
Oh my…I could maybe tolerate those prices if the Store stuff added some new features to the game, but not even most paysites rip you off like that 😉 And those are SETS, so the individual pieces will definitely be WORSE value.
The only thing that could redeem those prices was if there were frequent discounts, giveaways, and cheap ways to buy the Sim Points. Giving every new user $10 is a good start, I hope they keep it up. Maybe send out $2 coupons every couple of months. Still I wouldn’t even bother registering at those prices.
IMO, the pricing is what’s gonna make or break the Store. If they short-change us on items in the base game and then put up desirable items in the Store at prices that you’d have to think twice about paying, folks are just gonna get the stuff free through other channels. Happened with the Sims 2 store and it will happen again. In fact, with the Sims 2 store you could find fixed versions for free of all the broken and incomplete Store items.
I guess there’s some residue of simmers with plenty of cash and no clue how to research their alternatives who will buy stuff there… must’ve been the same folks who made the Sims 2 store work :/
Well that’s made my mind up for me – no CC means no game and most CC creators I know are of the same view. It’s as simple as that. Sims2 would never have been as popular as it is without modders fixes all of EA’s bugs and the huge assortment of CC available. They are idiots if they go through with this and sims3 will end up crashing and burning just like spore…
And let me guess, I won’t be able to download peoples houses or sims if they’ve used the furniture I’ll need to pay hundreds of dollars to get all of? Why do people even need this? what did you do to The Sims, EA? Make it so people can’t add their own custom furniture and clothing and everything they loved to make for free in Sims2? Players happily created things for free so clearly this wasn’t necessary. I’ll wait until the game comes out so I can see reviews but I swear, if you removed custom content, I will pirate every last bit of Sims 3 and probably every game you ever make from now on. You already jipped me off when I bought your 3D object putter-togetherer you named “spore” that you advertised as an evolution simulator and I’m not going to let you do it again. And EA I assure you, I am not alone.
Well, I have pirated all the sims games of the past and enjoyed them immensely. So, I figured, what the hell? I’ll support EA this time a round because the games are so enjoyable (as I do with all games worth buying). Wow, did I get p0wned. There is literally no content with the base pack, I can’t even pick a decent hair style for my guy. Seriously EA? this is your incentive to rid people of pirating? ha! I’m surprised they’ve risked getting all their users mad before they release any stuff packs. Future sales is already shot. Of course all my other EA games like BF2 and BF2142 never got patched as promised. Guess I should have expected this from EA. Way to lose your client base!
I think it’s bloody rediculous! I think the pricing might be different for me coz I have an Australian acccount so my pricing is much more. The Sims 3 is so much like The Sims 2, I was thoroughly disapointed. There are so many of the same items/objects. Its fucken lazy. I pay $80 for the game, which frankly doesn’t have much in it, and now I’m being made to pay AU$34 for 2000 points, which is roughly 50 items. It’s bullshit.
So mad at EA. And microsoft (xbox live etc.).
The annoying thing is they know we’ll pay it.
They have enough money, selfish bastards.
I also think the pricing is ridiculous! Seriously, they had all of this stuff ready, & it should have been included IN the game! New items should be released as Stuff Packs. I am not paying 75 cents to 1.00 for a top for my Sim! That’s horrid. I think I am going back to playing Sims 2 mostly.
wow you guys are funny. this game is great. people are pirating games left and right and you don’t expect them to at least try to make up for the lost profits? grow up.
Elijah, if you want to pay 1.00 for ONE hair style for ONE age group… meaning it costs at least 6.00 per hair style if you want to buy them for all age groups, go ahead and be ripped off. People like me who have never pirated a game in their lifetime are the ones getting royally screwed with this. I bought all the Sims games to date and if they don’t change things soon, I won’t be buying any more of their products.
…i have the game…ITS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO SIMS2!!! I mean seriously i’m looking at it now and going…wth did they change…it seriously looks like they ripped all the player created stuff out and expect the store to do well? They will lose alot of fans with this…i rate this a huge crash and burn. I guarantee i’m not going to pay 20 bucks for items i could have made for free on prior games. I’ll pirate that stuff in a heartbeat and flip off EA while i do it.
this is so sad . how they have taken a game so well loved and just shot it to shreds .. i will not pay for any store items .. to much this game will crash and burn.
