EA Retiring DarkSpore Servers in March 2016

Darkspore, released in 2011 by Maxis, was an interesting take on the Spore franchise and essentially mixed the formula of Diablo with Spore to make an action RPG.

While great fun, the online-only title never really took off and I have been closely monitoring the EA Service Updates page for a very long time now anticipating it’s closure. Sadly, that time is now approaching as EA has confirmed that DarkSpore will no longer be playable as of March 1, 2016.

EA delisted the game from online stores in 2013, so new players never had the opportunity to join the game, and “abandoned” the title the same year.

DarkSpore fans, make sure you go forth and enjoy the game while you can as an offline patch doesn’t seem likely.

EA released the following statement regarding the games retirement:

We are announcing that we will be closing the doors on Darkspore, effective March 1st, 2016. It’s been a great run and we hope that you have enjoyed your time with Darkspore. While it can be hard to say goodbye, keep in mind there are tons of awesome games available for free on Origin. Enjoy 48-hours of fun with Game Time titles such as The Sims 4 and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare or download the latest Origin On the House release and add it to your library.
