The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff Pack was released on the 29th September 2015, just in time for the Halloween festivities to begin throughout October. The latest stuff pack, as the title suggests, is designed to bring all sorts of halloween goodies into your game including new Create A Sim items, objects, interactions and even a new kind of party.

Now, this all sounds very promising compared to last month’s “Cool Kitchen Stuff”, which was a missed opportunity (read our review here). So let’s dig into this Spooktastic stuff pack and see what it brings to your Sims 4 experience, and whether it’s worth your money.

Create A Sim

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff brings new items for adult men and women and some new items for children too. These mainly consist of halloween costumes and let’s you really get your Sims into the Halloween spirit! Dress up as a zombie, gladiator or even a pirate and prepare to scare your neighbours!

A lot of the items are available for both men and women, apart from a few items. Women can wear the witch hat and girls can wear the princess outfit – it’s a shame that boys can’t also wear this like they could in The Sims 3 Generations.

Overall, the CAS offering is generous is more than enough to prepare your Sims for Halloween or any “Spooky” parties they’ll be attending.

Build/Buy Mode

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff also brings a variety of new items to the build/buy catalogue so that you can deck your Sims’ homes out to celebrate Halloween. From spooky chairs to spooky tables, and from spooky lights to spooky pictures (watch them closely!). You guessed it, all of the new 27 items are made to be… uh… spooky.

The new items clearly stick to the theme of Halloween in a fun manner and are not too dark or scary, which is nice. The new stylised rooms are fantastic and I love the colours that they are available in, which has made it super easy for me to turn my Sims’ home into a spooky retreat.

Some of the objects surprised me when I was using them. The treat bowl, for example, could scare your Sims when they dive in for a treat – they may be greeted by a zombie hand or a ghost which pops out of the candy!

New Interactions

For a limited time, your Sims can also use special Halloween interactions. Your Sims can now trick or treat other Sims, and discuss the costumes that they’re wearing. It has been confirmed that these will be removed from the game at a later date, probably until next Halloween when it’s “appropriate” to have it in-game.

New Gameplay

The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff, like other stuff packs, also brings some new gameplay. For this stuff pack, there is an all-new pumpkin carving station which allows you to craft different kind of pumpkins. As you use this, your handiness skill will increase which allows you to craft more pumpkins.

One of the cool things is that you can choose how the pumpkin looks – from classic faces to cat faces – and your Sims’ emotions also play a part in the end product. Try crafting a pumpkin while they’re angry and see how that works out for them…

Also new to the game is a new type of party – a Spooky party! You can invite Sims over for a spooktastic time where they can dress up in costumes and participate in halloween-themed activities which the game will prompt you to complete. It’s a nice addition to the pack although I don’t host many parties in my game so I’m unsure how much I will actually use this feature.
