When The Sims 4 was announced in May 2013, the press release stated that it was in development for PC and Mac for release in 2014. EA have only spoke about a PC version of the game since that announcement.

After looking at the EA Extranet website, where EA post their press releases, I have noticed that The Sims 4 on PC was listed for a 2014 release while The Sims 4 on Mac was listed as ‘TBA’. This suggests that The Sims 4 on Mac will be released after the PC version.

This is good and bad news for Mac users. The Mac version of The Sims 3 is not a native port and suffers from problems and mediocre performance. The fact that the Mac version could be released after the PC version suggests that we will get a native port of the game – optimised for the Mac OS X operating system like SimCity was.

I am excited to learn more about this as The Sims 3’s performance is not up to the same standards as the Windows version. SimCity’s Mac release proves that a native port makes all the difference in performance.

Please bear in mind that this has not been confirmed by EA and can change. I am simply reporting my findings 🙂
