Most people hate product placement, but myself? I don’t mind it as long as we have the option to control what we do with it. If you play the newly launched Sims Social on Facebook, you may of happened to see a few items relating to Dunkin’ Donuts. The company has partnered with EA for the first 6 months to provide players with special content according to this article from The Atlantic.
“Our products will provide value” to Sims Social players, Dan Saia, vice president for consumer engagement at Dunkin’ Brands, told the New York Times‘ Bruce Headlam. “Maybe gifting a doughnut to a friend will put them in a better mood.”
While increasing brand recognition among an audience that should prove to be dispersed around the country (and not just in the Northeast, where Dunkin’ Donuts is centered), the product integration should also drive traffic to the the company’s Facebook page and website. Any Sims Social players who visit Dunkin’ Donuts on Facebook and Like the company will receive two bonus items to put on display in their virtual homes.
Now, Dunkin’ Donuts…while you are making plans on releasing more content for the game, how about making plans on bringing the franchise back into our town? I miss your delicious donuts…why did a crazy person have to drive into your store and destroy the building….sigh…
LOL….my country in airport+supermarket has it…
Is it quality nice? Cauze I always see no one near the shops -.-
P.S my country is Sabah, Malaysia
@orangecake – their donuts are delicious – grab one next time you have a moment!
I love the idea of real brands’ “product integration”, but if EA put it in The Sims 3 series, not only the “Social” one, that would be awesome 🙂
I miss Sims 2 Stuff Packs with real brands items like IKEA and H&M 🙂
Ummm… WTF Frans! Why on earth would you want advertisements in game! Ads try to sell you things. I can understand it in a free game like the Sims Social, but to make you pay for a game, and shove advertisements in it is an insult to people.
Basically, it’s like saying “We have your money now, but we want to leech more money out of your purchase by making you see ads in game. If you don’t like it skrew you, because we already have your money.”
Dunkin’ Donuts FTW. Best bagels ever.
I’m sorry for my outburst, I’m just sick of the idea that big corporations can practically get away with anything, And people just roll with it.
I don’t. If I wanted to pay for advertisements in my game, I would get an XBox Live Gold sub. There’s a world of difference between corporate branding resulting in free downloads (like the Pepsi vending machine in Sims 1) and a paid-for SP like Ikea or H&M.
Given that in Britain I do not even have the luxury of knowing of this company, I find myself curious! Now I want donuts!
The Ikea and H&M stuff packs had some of the nicest quality and most appealing/modern objects compared to any of the other packs and expansions. I loved them and would love to see something like that return to The Sims.
@Parrot999
I agree with @Nick , i love it because they have better quality objects compared to other SP. I don’t mind about the “advertisement” aspects. Everyone have different opinions, and that’s my opinion.
@uknorthener
Who wouldn’t love free downloads? I would love it if those “real” objects are free. I just like those SP, so I didn’t mind to pay for something i like.
Soon every social networking sites will be full with online games..
I’m glad my social networking site is more into community and friendship 🙂
