Spore was Maxis’ next big thing in 2008 when it was released. From Single Cell to Galactic God, you can evolve your creature in a universe of your own creations. There’s five stages: Cell, Creature, Tribe, Civilization, and Space and each stage has its own unique style, challenges, and goals. Spore had a lukewarm reaction from players – it was praised for it’s creative tools but was missing some content that was in the pre-release state and also attracted negative press due to it’s use of DRM technology.
DRM is where the game locks itself to your account, such as Origin, and the internet is required to activate the game. Activation of the game usually uses up a set amount of activations and once this limit is reached other copies need to be deactivated. Because of the negative reaction for this with Spore, it wasn’t included for The Sims 3 at release.
GOG.com, known for releasing (mainly older) games as DRM free, has released the “Spore Collection” on their website! It’s DRM free and includes Spore base game, Galactic Adventures expansion, and the Creepy & Cute parts pack!
