Edit – Maxis have fixed the issue which prevented people from logging into the game and have said that they will continue to support the game.

Darkspore is an Action RPG, developed by Maxis, which was released in 2011. The game hasn’t received any updates since late 2011 and EA have posted on the Darkspore forums confirming that the game is an abandoned title.

Darkspore is no longer developed. It is for almost all intents & purposes an abandoned title. If you cannot play the game & have flicked through technical issues for any fixes, then contact EA Customer Support; especially if it regards CD-Keys or refunds.

The game hasn’t received an update for almost two years and the announcement notes that there are two specific errors which remain within the game. In my opinion, these should be fixed by EA as the product is still online and for sale on their Origin store.

Error 73003 has gone unfixed & remains an issue.

Error Code 3 has arisen for the majority/all & remains an issue.

Darkspore has been pulled from other retailers, such as Steam, and is now only available for sale on EA’s Origin platform. These errors prevent people from logging in to play the game and prevents users from saving their heroes. Darkspore is an always-online game, much like the new SimCity, however the only difference is that Darkspore is a synchronous title and allows co-op, which makes up for the online requirement in some respects. However, if people like to play alone (which makes the game much harder) then these errors could potentially be avoided without the always-online DRM.

I will however keep the forums here as clean & tidy as possible in my spare time. Why? Well why not. If it helps anyone with minor problems, or find their way somewhere, then that’s great.

I wish you all luck, no matter what path you choose with Darkspore.

While Darkspore received mixed opinions, I believe that if EA are going to continue to sell this game then these issues need to be fixed soon. I am yet to experience them, and personally enjoy Darkspore, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it retired soon.
