EA work hard to make limited editions, plus packs… I just hope they will work so hard to make a Complete Collection Edition (base game + all add-on) like in the Sim 1. It’s sad that Sims 2 haven’t this kind of edition or plus pack. So many advantages. I hope to see a Sims 3 : Complete Collection Edition. This can be the only ”not basic” edition of a Sims 3 game I will be ready to pay for.
Sims 2 Complete Collection is doable, because most of them were on CD-ROMs. They should be able to fit it all on two DVD’s. I made a backup of my originals, made images, and could fit it all on 2 DVDs to include all my bonus content and stuff.
Sims 3? Unless they release it on Blu-Ray, I’m not sure how they could make a complete collection pack.
I know the technical stuff. It’s just that I see many advantages.
First, it’s pratical if you need to do a clean reinstall. Only one serial, no waiting time because the game installation of a patch. Many less DVDs to change. Many less DVDs to store on your desk or your wardrobe.
Second, for the price, it’s can be a great deal for those who don’t have many add-on for whatever reason. And because it’s at the end of a era, EA won’t lose many bucks.
Third, EA make many useless special editions just for a Expansion Pack. I mean, they do 2-3 pack of EP/SP for the Sims 2. For the Sims 3, they do collector edition with only 4-5 more objects. They can make a special edition for the end of a era. Many others games with some expansion do the same.
Fourth, it’s not a big deal for EA technically speaking.

I should add that it was two, DUAL LAYER dvd’s that I used.
