Ugh…I just don’t understand EA/The Sims Team. I really wish I could go down there and look some of their employees right in the face and tell them they suck at doing their jobs. It’s not all of them – no, mostly the ones in the community department. The folks that are suppose to well…do their job and manage the community.
If you’ve ever been to the official forums, you know for a fact that the CM’s (community managers) are doing a poor, poor job on moderating their forums. Trolls everywhere, porn at random places (even on various Sims 3 pages). It’s disgusting. But no, the CM’s would rather promote their store, or post LOLsims or some other non-sense. Sure, they can do that…but really, they should also pay attention to what’s going on.
So instead, they decide to put moderators in place to help them out. Again, understandable. Of course, when you are a moderator – especially on an EA forum, it means jack squat as you have no control or power. Nope – just a title is all you get. One such moderator – bob007 was simply doing his job…trying to stop the trolls. Apparently EA had enough of the complaining…and got rid of him. No, not the troll(s)…rather, Bob – as a moderator.
I wanted to post this as a run-in to another topic – The Sims 3 Boycott Week. There are a number of reasons why people are angered with EA. Buggy games, poor patch support, overpriced items in The Sims Store, past value of their games, the way the series is heading in terms of gameplay. While there are some on that list that I agree with, for the most part it’s how they are handling their fans and treating us like crap. They got our money, that’s all they care about…They don’t care about bonding with the community. In some regions – like The Sims 3 UK Team, or the Dutch team and other areas, they have an awesome PR team that do a fantastic job with communicating with their fanbase. Here, in the US? Nope. No – instead, they send out take-down notices, axing our YouTube profiles for publishing videos that they themselves leaked and so on. It’s just…depressing.
/end rant.
The most likely reason the team does not communicate with its fanbase is because the ones in the US are the actual programmers/animators/etc. working on the games and have little time. This has been stated by one of the SimGuru’s.
Another point that I remember one of the SimGuru’s saying is that they get so much negatively and disrespect from some posters that why would they put up with that kind of behavior? It ruins it for us all doesn’t it?
Quite frankly I would not want to talk much or get involved with the fanbase either. I’m sure it gets to be an nuisance real fast for the developers having to deal with some extreme and uncalled for rudeness.
The UK Sim Team being involved and caring? I certainly don’t get that impression living in England. Plus, even if they did, it wouldn’t make a big difference. The game are still made in the US and that is where all the terrible gameplay is being made and where the money is going.
Just another sign of the Sims series being on a down swing. It makes me sad because there are no true alternatives to SIms games.
Something just occured to me, slow on the uptake I may be but there isn’t a huge difference between EA & our goverment right now…They both want the blue collar working class’s money without doing anything to earn it, are out of touch with the people and have unrealistic expectations of what we the people will keep putting up with…strange & creepy when you think about it. of, realistic none of this will change either so what’s the point, it’s like people in your life who drive you nuts and the sobriety/serenity prayer. I’m paraphrasing: change what you can, accept what you can’t and be wise enough to know the difference. so, what if any of this, can be changed? if so, how? I’m sharing in the depressed/frustration mode. sorry…
even if the US guys are the developers, why can’t they interact with the fans? I’ve seen other developers doing that too. It is clearly the Lazy EA for not doing that
Honestly, there probably are people inside the various multitudes of departments that make up EA who really care about what they do, but those people have bosses, and supervisors and eventually corperate CEOs they answer to up the chain who don’t care and just want to turn a profit or keep the boss happy to keep their jobs, it is sadly like any large company, people who don’t meet their deadlines/responsibilities are axed. The developers/programers/producers all have someone to answer to for not getting the game out when the higher-ups say so, so is it fair to blame them or the people they answer to? I’m on a philosophical bent this morning, bear with me. It is a “Chicken or the egg” Type thing, of course, science proved the chicken came first because of an enzyme it produces to create the egg…so yeah….
Wow, the thread was deleted! Guess that’s no big surprise. Typical.
