Okay, so it took me a while – a long while – to get the patches up. I had a lot of trouble understanding what EA was doing with a patch that was 600MB. Turns out, it is a pretty simple explanation. After the release of the 1.22 patch, from now on there will be one patch that will update all regions and all expansions/stuff packs. This is the way it should have been all along. It’s going to make my job a lot more easier in updating the patches pages. 🙂 Here’s a full explanation from Nichaedemus over at the Sims 3 Forums. I’d like to give thanks to all those involved for helping me out on this issue – Hafizah M, Juzz, TickleontheTum and countless others.
IMPORTANTSince the release of The Sims 3 Generations and base game update 1.22.9, players no longer need to update their expansions and stuff packs. All updates will now be applied only to the base game. This should make the patching process easier and prevent base game incompatibility errors. You can manually update the other expansion and/or stuff packs if desired, but this is no longer necessary.
All expansion and stuff packs released after World Adventures now come in only two game regions:
Region 1 – Disc Version (regardless of geographic location)
Region 7 – Digital Download Version (regardless of geographic location)

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Game\Bin
Or:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Game\BinNow open the file named skuversion.txt but do not change anything in it. The SKU version should indicate the current version number of the EP1 game. The last digit of the version number represents the game region – 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7. After you are done viewing skuversion.txt, close the file without saving it. When choosing a patcher to download, look for the corresponding region number in the header text situated above each download link.

that means everything become easier than before…
I’ve been confused with the way EA patching TS3 and its EPs and SPs, but now it’s clear.
So, we don’t really HAVE TO update those EPs or SPs, right? just update the base game, then we get all the functionalities, right?
ok great. So what about if we’re reinstalling or installing the game for the 1st time? Do we still have to download and install a million of those patches ea have been releasing since 09′ or does this huge azz 600mb take care of all that?
so that’s why i only have TS3W.exe in the main Sims 3 folder and not TS3EP04.exe in a different folder. interesting.
no, u must download all this patches on this page for all EPs and SPs of your region. also the base game, but since that u no longer need to update EPs and SPs.(sorry for my bad english)
Finally! No more downloading one patch, then another, then another, and another and so on!
so my launcher says my game is version is 8.0.152. then when i point to the base game icon it is at 1.21.123. Now is my game still needing an update because I’ve tried downloading awt’s limit slider hack but its not compatible! Its listed to be compatible with 1.22.9
This is great if you have a fast connection and unlimited bandwidth. Some of us do not. I am on a bandwidth limit every month and I cannot afford to download a patch that is 600 MB or higher every single time.
What sense does it make that I have to download a much larger patch and blow my bandwidth allowance to download something cumulative for everything if I don’t have all the EPs and stuff packs? That’s unnecessary bloat in file size. Also, if I am patched up to the latest patch, I want an INCREMENTAL patch that brings me to the next level instead of having to download one 700 MB file. That’s pointless. Imagine how big the file size will be once they add more EPs and stuff packs. It could easily increase to well over a gig or two. I shouldn’t have to download a larger file that includes stuff I do not even have in the first place.
Also, there were other patches released. People reported that photography stopped working with Generations but with the little ones they released a couple weeks ago for individual stuff and expansion packs, it started working again.
