You know, come to think of it – while I do love the idea of what we’ll be getting for The Sims 3 Generations, various articles and previews make it seem like it just isn’t enough….that it is lacking in terms of much bigger content like pets or weather. In the following article from IGN, you can read about the basic things that will be featured in the newest expansion pack, but for the most part it’s pretty much what we’re already familiar with.
Teenage rebellion
Teens get new ways to act out with a suite of pranks they can pull, including doorbell ditch, setting flaming bags on neighbor porches, throwing eggs at houses, planting whoopie cushions, and putting dye in the shower head. They can also throw parties and attend school dances.Your very own imaginary friend
Kids now have a much deeper pretending life, from new toys like the costume trunk and treehouse, to their very own imaginary friend, which no one else but that Sim can see.But best to keep all of that pretending on the well-behaved side, because parents have a deeper punishment system available that allows for timeouts, groundings, or banishment of favorite toys.
Bachelor party mayhem
In addition to more elaborate weddings, brides- and grooms-to-be can have bachelor and bachelorette parties, which come complete with party dancers and/or very-special firemen or policemen.
Shoutout to SnootySims for pointing this out via Twitter.
Yep, that’s the problem, at least as far as I’m concerned. Pushchairs and bunkbeds aside, it seems sort of shallow, from all info and interviews.
Either they’ve got some huge surprise planned or it really is that shallow that there’s not that much they can put in detail.
I think the problem is that there is no overarching theme that people can latch onto — you know, like Vacations or Weather or what have you. Generations is sort of about family life, but also about new fun objects and new socials — it’s really a grab bag.
I don’t think this makes it shallow though. The game was really lacking a lot of socials, especially for children, and I for one am glad they are being restored. I like the throwback to whimsical Sims 1 days too in the form of the bachelor and bachelorette parties with dancers etc. The new objects sound delightful, and spiral staircases are a must have for builders.
All of this just goes to prove my point that this pack is really scattered and spread out (but that’s not necessarily a bad thing).
Nice Screenshots 🙂
Is that body hair? It looks scary O_o
The excesive body hair is kind of… creepy
thank you for sharing. i agree it seems very shallow. for an entire expansion pack to be devoted to ‘generations’, there should be more than a couple new interactions for the teens and kids and adults. there should be MORE interactions packed in there, plus more interactions and features for the babies and toddlers. it has been said that there is a lot for every life stage, but so far as we are hearing that is NOT true. very very disappointed in how little this company keeps getting away with producing. ever ep gets less and less and for the same price. it’s like they are doing the very least they can get away with. i know of a lot more talented modders in the community that produce items for the game. i just don’t get it.
that being said, the company obviously knows fans like many of us will eagerly get any little crumb they throw us for sale. problem is, it really is becoming just that…mere crumbs.
i agree. and further, it looks nasty. like kids and teens that they purposely gear these games towards – wants to see all that. it is too excessive. probably have hair all over the back too. lol yet none under the arms or elsewhere. fail. :-/
One thing to keep in mind, this article is done purely by IGN themsleves. Their ‘Basics’ articles only serves to recap information already given. It’s a summary of all the information given by all interviews and articles released so far. Not all the game includes. The developers didn’t produce this list, IGN did. With information already released.
So, these may not be the basics at all. it’s just the information that has been released so far. IGN update these articles when more information is released and comfirmed. This isn’t a full list of features. Just a list of features comfirmed so far.
I didn’t know they geared these games towards kids and teens but it makes sense as to why the game sucks so much nowadays. The kids and teens don’t expect it to be that great. They are happy with what they get and move on to the next big thing 15 minutes later anyway. Those of us who have played since 2000 know that it can be so much better than the crap they have been releasing lately and I for one, miss how I could play the sims and only the sims and never get bored with it
Now I’m starting to worry if that’s all what we’re getting for this EP 🙁 maybe that’s why they just keep repeating what we already know
we had better hear some new great features tomorrow or…
WATCH OUT EA!
yes it’s very unfortunate for long time fans. the quality continues to degrade substantially. i do like the appearance of the game (although the sims themselves don’t look as good or realistic as say sims medieval) – but some of the towns are stunning, visually. and more realistic than i thought (twin brook and bridgeport mainly). but it’s all pretty, yet with very shallow gameplay. if i wasn’t a long-time fan, i wouldn’t have even bothered with sims 3. EA needs to hire some of the modders and devs in the community. some produce far superior work and have much better ideas too. if it weren’t for the community, i would have given up on sims 3 a long time ago (and probably the whole franchise). aside from the neighborhood feature (which was a huge draw for me for the sims 3) – aside from that, sims 2 is still superior in many ways. and in some instances S3 has degenerated back to sims 1 (ie the babies life stage)!
Someone at modthesims said they were talking to people who were at the hands on events, and those people said there was some big revels coming up that they couldn’t talk about. Take it with a grain of salt, of course, since it’s third hand information…but hopefully it’s true. Because right now? Sims 3: Generations is really feeling like Sims 3: Stuff We Should Have Included in Base Game, Our Bad.
Is it body hair or chest hair???
cuz I’ve only seen chest hair so far… ?
Love that! But I agree, there doesn’t seem to be much draw to this expansion besides a few new interactions and objects. It lacks a central attention grabbing theme. “Generations” and their trailers make it seem like their adding the ability to age into the game, which was in the base game. So it really doesn’t compare to any other expansion pack (it really doesn’t. In a very negative way).
Haha yeah, I agree. I mean…the chest hair is cool and a nice touch of detail….but most guys I know have leg and arm hair as well….just saying.
Generations is clearly the most lacking expansion to date. When I saw that there was no new neighborhood included, it was the icing on the cake of a terrible expansion. I feel that paying $40 for a handful of new objects and interactions is insane. This expansion seems like it should be worth around $10-15 compared to other expansions. World Adventures included 3 new worlds, Ambitions had tons of activities, skills and a new town, and Late Night of course had plenty of content. What does this expansion have? Every single preview of Generations is exactly the same. Babies and toddlers get strollers (whoop-dee-doo), children get to play dress up, teens get to pull a few pranks (THAT is going to get old quickly), and adults get to have disgustingly hairy bodies and go through midlife crises. How is this possibly enough content for an entire expansion? I completely agree with the idea: adding content to their bland lives. However, the way EA executed the expansion is extremely disappointing.
kids are not the target demographic for the Sims. The Sims 3 is made for Teens and older.
I think you’re all overreacting. We have to wait 12 hours before we can see more pics and more info about this. That’s just 25% of all the info that I found in SimsVIP. And I still think Sims 3 is infinitely better than Sims 2. I have all the games of The Sims series and its expansion and stuff packs.
I don’t know about you, but in my family we did not ‘pull’ pranks on each other. The one time I did pull a prank, I got punished, old school style, and didn’t get my video games taken away, lol. They should have called this mini expansion pack Sims Behaving Badly.
I hope that this expansion pack is not disappointing…I mean from the Trailer that was unleashed it looks like they are adding a lot of new content to the purpose of home living and families with children you know actually going through the things that we go through in real life…but from the information so far it doesn’t look like much…i wouldn’t spend 40 dollars on it but maybe i’d buy it when it drops…
what im really trying to say is that i hope they actually do a good job with this expansion pack because they have a really good theme going on here…expanding on the real meaning of family and home life…

I still don’t see the point of this Generations thing. Maybe it’s just me, because I don’t make traditional families in my Sims games but, as it is, I don’t have any interest whatsoever in this “new” EP. It just sounds like a bunch of stuff and socials that should have been part of The Sims 3 anyway… 🙁
