I’d like to clarify a little something with Luke’s last post and the comments that were left for him. First, I want to thank him for even thinking about the fact that the site is 9 years old. While yes, the site was created around the timeframe of August 16-18 of 2000 (I can’t quite remember which day it was, but I know it was launched around the same time I went back to school) the actual domain name was registered around this time back in 2001. Before then I was hosted by Homesims (which was http://simprograms.homesims.com) and The Sims Resource (http://simprograms.thesimsresource.com). Just thought I’d let you know a little more about the site’s history 🙂
Now, about the comments about being unprofessional and writing with bad grammar. I don’t know Luke’s or Frankie’s feelings about this matter, but I’ve stated time and time again that you’re going to see many grammar/spelling mistakes. I can’t write worth a damn and quite frankly, don’t care. English was always my most hated subject even though somehow I always managed to ace each class (I suppose I may of been a teacher’s pet). As for the professionalism of this site…well…I just run a blog fansite about the games I love – that we all love. I’m not looking to branch out into the journalism industry or even the games industry. Just a couple of fans posting things that you may be interested – or not. If a post isn’t interesting to you – that’s alright, I understand…but just scroll on down until you find something you may like 🙂
And for future references, there even may be times where I decide to post something completely unrelated about EA/Maxis…like Left 4 Dead, Ghostbusters, movies, tv shows, my vehicles or mules. Yes, you may wonder why I would be posting this at a Sims site…truth is it’s always been sort of a personal blog hence the tagline under the title “and other useless stuff!”.
So that’s all I have to say about that, until then gotta run, weekends/holidays are usually my time spent taking care of house-related and real-life work. Will check-in later!
Can you add WP-touch back on please?
I tried, but there is some sort of conflict between WP-Touch and this site. I don’t know if a latest update caused it or if it conflicts with one of my plugins – but when I enabled it, every page of the site-admin would refresh to a white page after 10 seconds :/ I think there is another WordPress mobile plugin I could try.
Hear, hear!
Your site is great, regardless of who posts on it. I don’t particularly care how the stuff you post is written (well, as long as it’s not in netspeak or whatever) as I’m just here to read news and other random stuff. If people don’t like it, then I guess they should find somewhere else for their news.
Well written Jud, sorry about that whole deal with the comments, when someone says they’re disgusted at something that I’ve written, it gets me extremely irritated, so once again, sorry
I still consider this site to be my primary source of news about Sims/Spore news. I figure that if it’s worth hearing about, Jud and crew will share it with us. You guys are awesome, and I’m a university English professor, and I don’t mind your writing style.
Thanks Robb, and if you don’t mind me asking which university? (my brother is majoring in creative writing)
Don’t you guys feel you ever need to justify yourselves to anyone! You’ve got a GREAT site here (and congrats on the 9-year milestone) and you’ve quickly become the go-to spot for the latest goings on in Sims and other Maxis titles. The more personal posts, e.g. Ghostbusters etc. are fine too, it gives the authorship more credibility when they let us get to know them more. 🙂
Plus you’ve played a huge role in getting things like the Spore Bot Parts out to places like here, backwater England, wherein we’d otherwise be goegraphically unqualified to receive them. 😛 My Spore-robots thank you! And so do I!
thanks for your post Beatnuki, glad we can reach out to other countries as well as our own
I admit that I love English and I care very much about grammar, but it could be simply because I’m a writer for fiction and I’m majoring in Creative Writing (and I still have so much more to learn). However, I have never complained about Judd’s grammatical errors (I’ve seen much worse to be frank) because it really is his site and he has already stated that he does not care about grammar (unless he wanted his site to be taken seriously in a journalism aspect, which he also stated that he didn’t). I understand why grammarians cringe since I can be that way at times, but the fact remains that this is Judd’s site and it’s rude to tell him how to run it (I’m not pointing fingers, I’m just speaking in general). I still think he is very intelligent, just that English is not his most beloved subject, which, again, he has stated several times. Hell, science is my least favorite subject (I hate sci-fi) but Judd beats me in that category. We all have a subject that we are better in. The point is, this is a fansite for The Sims and it’s supposed to be fun. This is now the only fansite I ever visit for Sims-related news (I used to visit Snooty and several others). It’s because I am a crew member, but because I happen to find this site updated more frequently than many other sites and Judd collects news from other sites, making his site a true one-stop. Let’s hope that everyone can get along. Save the fights for the sites that allow that kind of thing. If anything, Judd is easily the kindest Simmer I have ever met in my life, and we all know that there aren’t many of those around, what with all the endless drama that goes on. Be thankful that he beats many sites in that department.
And I just mispelled Jud’s name, go figure. Sorry about that. I keep thinking Ashley and Wynona (sp?).
@ Luke: I teach at UVa, but only academic writing. I have no idea what their creative writing program is like.
@ Robb, ok, thanks for responding
@ Frankie, you also just misspelled “misspelled” 🙂 ( it’s one of my spelling words for honors English this week)
